The BBC is reporting
that Variety is reporting that Bryan Singer is confirmed to direct a theatrical version of Battlestar Galactica.
Galactica fandom has been buzzing about this for
since February
, with much anxiety over whether the new film will take place in (a) the universe of The Original Series, (B) the Ron Moore universe, or (C) an all-new reboot universe. When the rumors started in February, all signs pointed to a Glen Larson/old school version;
MTV News
seems a little more optimistic that the film might not be a total object of contempt for addicts of the RDM version:
"The project is literally at ground zero right now. With Singer on board, now it's time to find a writer, figure out the course such a project might take. Might Ron Moore step in to deliver a script? Anything is possible."

While this is
not new
(there was the attempted continuation to original
Battlestar Galactica
around 2001 which ended with Singer leaving to direct X2 and Fox deciding to give Joss Whedon's
Firefly
a try), it's pretty interesting that it has resurfaced in the news but so soon after the latest version just finished its run on Sci Fi (
cough
SyFy)? I can't say it is good timing myself.
Don't get me wrong: I loved the old show when I was little and still enjoy catching reruns of it every now. It's just that I'll take the new version any day of the week and that it's still too soon. It's like the studio deciding to make the next Star Trek movie a remake of the last one.
I guess a counterpoint would be Ang Lee's Hulk and The Incredible Hulk but still. |

Please not yet, BSG the series only just finished and that was fab (in my opinion) If they want to do more of that great!!!!!!
Maybe a special of the first year New earth perhaps
Good job on Star Trek but its been a long time since the original series and it concentrated on the early careers of Kirk, Spock, Scotty etc.... |

I sure hope not. It's unnecessary. They've done enough with the BSG universe. They even had that movie Caprica, which was a prequel to the SciFi (I mean SyFy) series. |

The studios just want another excuse to make something that's similar to Star Trek, that's what. |

I think whoever came up with this bright idea was thinking about screwing me out of another 20 bucks (does The Plan ring a bell). Talk about laziness "ya we will throw in a few new shots with a bunch of old ones, and call it a movie!!" Oh thats right... I have isohunt so I didn't have to waste my money that time! |

Considering how terrible Singer's Superman movie was...I really don't think he should be let anywhere near this franchise. But, hey...that's just me. |

I think it's a moot point, I doubt it'll get made. I think a lot of people will prbably think it's too soon after the series, and if it does get made will probably get boycotted by the die-hards anyway |

I am all for a branch off of the current version of BSG, as indicated where they pick up on Earth even if they pull up anchor and head off somewhere else. I suppose the way they ended things on Earth that probalby would not work out so well.
Still...Bring on more Sci Fi |

Absolutely not.
I've heard about this as well, and it sounds like a train wreck just waiting to happen.
Drastic changes were made between the original and the 2004-2009 remake. Adama gets a first name, becomes Hispanic, drops about 20 years. Tigh also gets a first name, goes from black to white and ages about 30 years. Apollo becomes a call sign and gets a first and last name (Lee Adama). Athena isn't Adama's daughter, but a hot Asian humanoid Cylon who inherits the call sign. Starbuck becomes female. And so on.
Making a new movie based on the original, reversing all the changes the new series made would be confusing and stupid.
The new series ended solidly. No reason to frak with it. Especially since it blew not only the original, but all the Star Trek series as well out of the water. They should just leave well enough alone. Mission complete. Make a sequel to the Trek reboot (2 are on the way), or maybe something original. |

I never watched except maybe 15 mins to see wgat it was. Bring back good shows, like Life, or Deadwood, aren't there enough space cadets running around now, do we really need another star trek imitation? Something different please, Warehouse 13, Eureka, Haven, Sanctuary - all good sci fi shows, no spacemen |

Oi Bryn Singer, I agree with my brothers above, never mind making a movie of BSG, why not make a movie of Caprica instead? There are a lot of questions that wont now get answered about the origins of the cylons now that the series has been cancelled, so maybe a movie or 2 can fill that black hole the series will leave |
