**TAKE NOTE OF THIS ISOHUNT ADMINISTRATORS**

I have noticed lately alot of files that seem to follow a certain pattern that appear to be fake shares!

For starters when you do a search in isohunt these are the files that come up with thousands of seeders and leechers. Sometimes even 10's of thousands. BUT, when you go to download the torrent there doesn't seem to be a single seed you can ever connect to and there is hundreds of people all with around 90ish percent

They all have similar trackers usually with serve something in the name and after doing a bit of background checking I have noticed this:

These are the trackers that came up for a single torrent file and there associated IP's:

-- list removed by jthm --

I think this shows quite clearly that these are trackers hostings files for MPAA and are somehow faking what there seeds and leechers are.

Please ISOHUNT there must something you can do about this!!!

So far what I have been doing to avoid this is not going for the top hits in a search that has thousands of seeds, and then checking the trackers for funny sounding ones like above. Also once you start a download have a look at the peers and make sure there is some people there who have 100% and not a whole heap all stuck at 94%

I hope this helps! Good luck

It was a matter of time before this fakes like these become more prevalent. I will create measures to counter this, by adding authenticity to torrents via rating of torrents and associated trackers. In the mean time, please post any suspicious trackers you know of not posted here.

If you are reporting specific torrents, please use the same format as we have outlined for copyright takedown.

Are you able to add addresses into an IP blocking list so it blocks their IP's dynamically? I don't think that will work.

I guess we're going to have to hope that the admins here can add some sort of tracker recognition for the torrents that will filter out known bad trackers.

We don't have to block ips to trackers, we just remove the effected torrents from our search listing. I'll be setting up a script within the next couple of days that automatically compares the list of bad trackers (by our internal id for them -- so it doesn't matter what ip they're on, as long as the torrent is associated with a bad tracker, it's filtered) to our current list of unfiltered torrents and if a hit is found, it'll automatically filter that torrent.

The following list of trackers are known bad and have been filtered from our search result listings, to the tune of 734 torrents. You folks should see the changes within the next 4 hours.

The most affected generalized searches were:
the oc (mainly eps 2 and 3)
wedding crashers
family guy

We've also been in contact with some of the sites we index, including torrentspy.com, mininova.org, torrentbox.com and monova.org... and we're all trying to work together to prevent bad trackers/torrents and keep things like this from happening in the future. We apologize for any inconvenience this might have cause, this topic is now sticky.

Sorry for cleaning up this thread -- but i had to make it easier to give you guys new information.

My first round through the database wasn't very complete becauase I didn't see a vital piece of logic that goes into how we index torrents. As I'm a lot more awake now than I was before, I've seen the error in my ways and although my new way is a lot more expensive, I'm sure everybody'll be better off for it.

My new method checks the trackers listed in the scrapes. There are a few torrents from piratebay and a few other sites that turn themselves into the primary tracker but leave the previous *fake* trackers in place in the scrapes. I'll be looking now by torrent hash (more accurate method) so there'll be fewer missed bad torrents. I hope this helps, as always, changes to the search should take place within about 4-5 hours.

Thanks again, for being a part of isoHunt!

I did also notice that some of the torrents that I was downloading had a bad tracker or two listed in the scrapes listing but the torrent itself was fine, downloaded ok and worked alright.

Possibly not all the torrents that have those trackers listed with them are bad torrents. Usually I found if it was hosted by somewhere like piratebay and had only one or two bad trackers listed from scrapes it was ok but if it had several bad trackers it was usually bad.

I'm thinking maybe they just added their trackers to the files so that they could see the people that were trying to download it and therefore be able to prosecute or whetver they're doing to people now.

(I did get a nasty email from my ISP because they had been contacted by MPAA due to items I was downloading once, but since using protowall I haven't had any issues)

Correct. We are only banning torrents that uses bad trackers as primary, not if secondary bad trackers not specified in the original torrent are tracking it. Unless there are sufficient evidence that there is no good seeds at all for it.

Bad trackers are no longer listed in scrapes.

If you can't make a script that checkss for bad torrents (which you probably can) how about a button users can click to warn of a bad torrent?

I could be wrong but when you search Franz Ferdinand the following torrent shows way more seeds than it has, and although you will download the file, all the tracks are silent!

(the top one)

There are a heap of .tk trackers that have 0 seeders when you connect but say over a thousand in the isohunt list.
Ones like http://swilly.tk:7000/announce: need to be killed somehow Laughing

Why don't you just allow users to add comments like Pirate Bay does? next to the download is a page that pops up and allows users to leave comments. Users could post in here when there is a problem.

check it out http://thepiratebay.org/details.php?id=3470941
as you can see, they are only used for "keep it up" type messages for that particular one, but if it was a bad torrent. someone could say so.
