hey all,

did not really know where to post this problem so thought i'd try here. Sorry if its out of place, between you all you seem to be able to answer anything!

my computer at work automatically logs off after 15 minutes unless you are very actively using it ie if the radio is on but nothing else is being done then it'll log off. But if you are typeing it wont.

does anyone have any suggestions as to how i can stop it doing this?

i'm particularly annoyed with it today as it just logged off whilst i was burning a disc and now i have to start again!

its a dell pc with windows xp proffessional 2002. Its the only one that does it out of the four we have.

thanks for any help

take it easy

You're in the right place. Have a look at your power options in control panel. Change power scheme to always on, and the other settings to never. See if that works.

Is it actually logging of and shutting down, or auto restarting like when crashing.

sorry, my fault. Embarassed

it does not shut down or restart.......it just logs off and goes to the screen where we have to push ctrl+alt+delete so we can then log on again. and if no-one logs on again then the monitor goes on standby after a wee while.

Ok then it could be your screensaver. Go to your disiplay properties and increase the wait time and untick the box that says On resume, password protect. Or just disable it altogether.

No screensaver tab? That is odd. You're definatly describing a power management problem. Going to have to look into that no screensaver thing.

Then anything is possible. Check the bios as the last poster said, if you have access. Otherwise take it up with them.
