people don't realize how versatile the mp4/m4v actually is. it isn't just for iPods! you can turn the quality and resolution to anywhere on the dial. (this one goes to 11!! **rock on**) 11 being HD I guess, cause avi is an old school format that can't keep up in modern video formats.

Even though I prefer mp4/m4v over avi I also prefer mkv over them all, its a new very advanced HD format, as internet sppeds continue to increase the new HD fromats will overtake the old avi. I mean it's an 18 year old format, and in internet years that's ancient.

Well I've not been downloading long, but I've not really seen a great amount of difference. I use my PS3 as my dvd player, and that has played everything I've ever thrown at it, without any converting or anything. The quality has always been impeccable, and I've enjoyed everything I've watched- avi, mp4, and H264.

every new technology gets resisted. That's just how society works. When what we have works fine, why do we need something that is "better"?

that mentality is part of the reason why bittorrent technology is being resisted and sued rather than embraced (similar to what happened when betamax & VHS first hit the public)
i agree in principle that if something ain't broke - don't fix it
but mp4 improves quality and includes more features than avi
(i guess one could say the developers of mp4 had decided that avi was broke and needed fixing)
kinda like how uTorrent 2(beta) Vs. Bittorrent basic client
uTorrent 1.85 does what it does well and has extra features rather than the basic client
and uTorrent coincides with other apps/programs to simplify some features (like that ipBlocklist updater by fear-otaku)

Good post Fletch. Very Happy
I am doing all my encodes and uploads using the H.264 encoder and .mp4 format. I'm getting nothing back apart from thanks, a/10 v/10, excellent quality rip etc.etc.
Kinda says it all! Very Happy
