Private forums.

Is they good or is they bad?

Are they like fat birds? Ok to get what you want but you wouldnt admit it to yer mates.

What do you guys think of private forums? Good because you can be lazy and dont have to do your homework before DLing a 2 year old torrent Rolling Eyes

Or bad because they are full of elitist pricks who smugly think they are superior to the common herd?

Personally i think it is somewhat against what P2P is all about. That info is freely available to all regardless of invites and ratio.

What say you?

forums should be open for everyone to see.
especially the way things are at the moment when we need new blood in the forums.

I much prefer sites like Isohunt, it encourages sharing, not forces it on you.

Which to me, makes me wanna stay and give back. Being told to do something is not a choice.

Torrents and the files held within are to be shared, not to be controlled.

Speed.cd/IPTorrents and others like that piss me off. So I just take what I need, and erm well, give nothing back.

The only people I wanna share with, are isohunt users and abusers. Choice is everything!

Ohh and yes, the people on there with the best ratios, are elitist, and pompous pricks with nothing to worry about but status.

Some of the private websites there doesn't allow their users to post pictures of the website or even talk about it that mostly to make the owners stay out of troubles and sues

Forcing their members to seed mostly because the community is small and if 90% of them leech and run then all of the torrents will die

And when it comes to new torrents that is heavily downloaded lot of people prefers to use private torrent websites to get it faster

One thing that annoys me is it is one of the rules of private sites that you must not reUP any torrent elsewhere so i have....many times for the reason i gave above, that the torrents should be and remain in the public's possession.

Yes this means that i am a member of two private sites and i have used those sites for the above., to share not to hoard and stifle information.

Devilz, how much faster does it need to be? Are folk going cold turkey waiting for the next episode of Prison Break? Seriously, most of the stuff on private sites are like "Neighbours" or "How to look good naked" because everyone there is desperate to up their ratios they will UP any old crap.

Nah, i want no part of the private boys club who judge you by a share ratio and as you said Soda, torrents should be for everyone to enjoy and should remain public.

I think both have their own pros and cons about them honestly. I do get better speeds on private for downloading (with no question) and I get most of my torrents on semi private sites. But, these torrents that I get always end up on public sites and the private ones I do belong to have no problems with them being upped to public sites.

I have no problems with a site asking that you keep a proper ratio but I also know that for some, it is near impossible. Not all people should join private sites for that reason.

Just remember, almost all the new torrents you see came from some sort of private site at one point or another.

You know these guys who can't wait when an episode is released or even a game that they've been waiting for a long time

We can take as an example GTA IV is a big game which when was released into torrents it took a long time for lot of people so that's why they mostly go to private websites (Nah no I bought GTA IV for my PS3 on the release date for people who are trying to make something from this I can show pictures if you're interested(who is interested) )

And uploading to other places won't work because their trackers use that passkey thing and yes you can upload it if you remove their tracker and add another trackers.

And also for these people who got slow upload speed will die fast in these private websites because after you finish leeching so it's time to seed because you're forced

You won't really have anyone to seed to because most of them are connected to the fast seeders and will finish fast and get most of the ratio while you stand there with the status "Seeding" and doing nothing

The title said forums but going off the content of SoDa's post I kind of assumed tracker or website was intended. I might have assumed totally wrong though. We all know what happens when you assume, huh?

well having been in and even being part of the staff on both a priv tracker a private forum I got to say they are private for a reason. however the reason for a priv forum and a priv tracker are both comp diff.. I think that a priv tracker us for people who either care a lot for what they get out of it or they are serious about torrenting.

This post sucks cause I m on the iPod touch I will edit accordingly

my answer to both forums and trackers plus usenet.

personally out of the 14 torrent sites I am a member of 5 are private.

I prefer public forums (includes usenet (see below)) for the mix of noobs and old heads, Private forums are not so much like that.

They all have their place.

Public - Anybody can join and learn about torrent's and P2P, Bad things are you have to deal with fakes, Speeds and seeds are hit and miss.

Private - Invite only so most that are there already know how things work, No fakes, always awesome speeds, Bad things are you have to keep up your ratio, But really that's not very hard you can even buy it Laughing

, forums are full of elitist assholes most of the time.

Newsgroups (Usenet) - Everything usually hits these first, Awesome speeds (will max your internet speeds always), No fakes, . The only bad thing is you have to Pay to download (there are some free servers available, even though they are very limited)
