I was using peer guardian with a current block list, and still got a DMCA violation warning from my ISP. It was pretty disappointing.

Back in the early 2000's I was always using IRC and DC for P2P file sharing. It was a really fun community based method of sharing files. Around 2003 and 2004 I got my first taste of torrents and I'd switched to using BT very quickly. I've been using BT for the last 6 years; until now that it doesn't seem safe to join a torrent.

So I recently fired up MIRC, loaded a nifty DC file browser script, and after an hour of joining multiple networks and trusted channels I have a local database of lots of fun files to share. Much to my surprise I'm getting much better download speeds than I ever did with BT, and even more to my surprise the Queues are much shorter than I remember.

Is there any other people, such as myself, who have given up torrents, to some degree, in favor of DC?

nothing is 100% and peerguardian has been replaced by peerblock for a short while now

using old dated stuff often results as little to no protection
i mean if you got a virus b/c you didn't update your virus definitions who really is to blame?
properly setting up uTorrent and protecting oneself should be the moral of the story here
of course if your ISP is jumping on the bandwagon, then it may be time to ditch them
they'll do the same to your DC as they would to your torrenting
there is no reason to find a work-around with naughty ISP, much better to drop their service - quit funding their efforts

not much different problem than many private-share sites; small community base and such

also, if you're going into to xdcc and direct transfers and all that...

make sure to grab OmenServe and AutoGet to automate the process

it's great!
