Its all well and good to know how to add subs, but what is the easiest way to remove hard coded subs, without all the hassle of using a complicated program like eg SubRip, which needs such a lot of input to do a simple job????

Perhaps because hard coded subs aren't all that easy to remove.

@sybex0479

This is a terrific post. I found it easy to follow and very detailed...
Question; So why have I gone through half a dozen disks and each one has failed to take the sub on?
I have tried two extensions three times each. One is a SUB file, the other is an SRT. The SUB syncs up perfectly, and the SRT does not have as much dialogue. Can I rename the SUB to SRT, and just keep trying with that one? Also, do I have to burn a disc each time or can I just save the conversion to the My Videos file? First time using cxtodvd.

I'll just keep trying until I can sleepwalk through this or read a post.
Cheers... Great job on the thread...
Cheers Cheers

PS EDIT - I closed vlc when/after I had set everything up and started the conversion each time??? Maybe???

Sorry guys/gals, for the late response I was away and busy (abroad). I’m back now Smile

@CommanderKeen there is no easy way to remove hard coded subtitles. Removing them is not a simple job as they’re part of the picture/movie. Since you were looking for an easy way to remove them I’m not going to go into how one can remove hard coded subtitles.

@Edelstein I’m glad you found my post useful and easy to follow. No need to rename the .sub to .srt as it was the older versions of cxtodvd that didn’t let you add .sub extension subtitles, but the latest (Version 4) does support them.

Also you don’t have to burn a disc every time, just open the settings tab in cxtodvd, go to burning and uncheck the delete folder after successful burn option.

Then go to your working folder which is under the general tab, to find out the location of where your converted movie is saved, then play your movie using VLC player; just right click the name of the converted movie and select play with VLC media player click it and your converted movie menu will pop up.

Select play then right click on the screen and select video – then subtitles track and after that enable your subtitles. This way you can always check how your subtitles are looking, before you burn them on to a DVD-R.

@pacino23 thanks for appreciating the effort Smile

I forgot to mention one thing, which is important. Whenever you change any settings in your cxtodvd's "subtitle text rendering settings"...

For e.g. you change the font size or color or any other subtitle settings - you have to restart your PC for those settings to take effect. All other settings in cxtodvd are changed right away, but when it comes to the subtitle settings you have to restart your PC, otherwise you will be stuck with the same settings and your converted movie will not have the new settings applied to it.

Btw I edited and added this to my original post as well.

In the latest version of convertxtodvd which is ConvertXtoDVD v4.0.12.327 you don't have to restart your PC if you've made any changes in your cxtodvd "subtitle text rendering settings"

Here is a link to the latest version http://isohunt.com/torrent_details/191208801/convertxtodvd?tab=summary
