Well, seeing as they always claim they put adds in TV shows to pay for them all I can say is I would never pay for something that has adds in it and thus giving the networks a double income. |

I wouldn't pay for something that you can watch for free on TV.
Maybe with a few commercials (I can fast forward).

I would happily pay about 2 dollars for an episode of a series I like, but I like to actually own my stuff, so no DRM, downloadable and a common, non-propriatory format would be required.
Of course the best we can expect will probably be 5$ an episode with a stream that will only work with a special player plugin after watching a few commercials and for good measure your personal data will be sold... I'm realistic that way. |

Apart from the BBC iPlayer where we can watch most of the BBC programs on (even some popular series and films!) there are online players for the other free-to-air channels, ITV channel 4 and five.
The BBC either shows the programs for a certain length of time (usually a week) or if they are the holders of the rights for quite a long time. The plus is that there are no adverts whatsoever (BBC is funded by the TV license which has to be paid by every household in the UK that owns a TV) but they are very limited in what they can show and the holder of the rights (i.e HBO or fox) can stop them making it available online.
Also you can download anything you can watch online and be able to watch it at your own leisure within the certain timeframe. Always good if one works irregular hours or doesn't want to stay in just to watch a certain series.
What I have seen though is 4OD (Channel 4's online player) where you can watch their programmes and they have a 30 sec adverts in the beginning, a 15sec in the middle and that's it! I wouldn't pay for what is free on TV anyway, especially since most things are replayed through the week, but I don't mind watching a few adverts here and there so the channel gets some revenue and I leave my pocket alone |

Well this an interesting decision, if not financially then morally, although I believe if it airs on broadcast TV(not paid channels like HBO, etc.), it is fair game after that, commercials or edited, there should be no more rights to something after it is aired on TV(used to be vcr's could record even, of course we are a long way from that now, but why sell things if can't use them for their intended purpose?). I believe this to be true for movies too, which take at least 5 years usually before they are aired on TV.
I think since sites like Netflix for example, where I can legally watch anything(TV and movies) I want streamed right to my Wii, PSP, Xbox, PC, or Phone for only $8 bucks a month, exist already, why would I want to pay per episode for something I most likely will only watch one time? I mean this site has shut down at least 2 video stores in my town and if Blockbuster wouldn't have started an online deal they would have been next. I mean $4 dollars for 'each' DVD rented or $8 a month, a no-brainer really...
At just .50 cents an episode for example the first 2 seasons of True Blood would cost $12, that seems fair compared to the cost of the DVD's commercially(especially since it is a paid channel program) or of renting, buy not if compared to Netflix or to getting it for nothing on a torrent site..
I suppose overseas is a different story. I find it interesting that everyone who has a TV pays to keep BBC afloat, that is like privately funded public television(not broadcast networks) like PBS in the USA. That explains why we get to see shows on those networks(PBS) here like MI5(Spooks in the UK) and Are You Being Served?, Doc Martin, etc, for free in the US, which are also commercial free as well.. |

I got a big problem with downloadable games without manual, disc etc.

$5 per episode and $10 for a movie - download or stream - depends on user pref. _ i pref download so I can keep for a while.
BUT does the $ mean I own the episode / movie and therefore can download it again later for free? or is it a lease for the supply of one copy - the integrity of that copy then becoming the problem of the leasor?
I dont give a toss about pretty dvd covers on the shelf. I'd be much happier if I could hire dvds on jump drives, watch in media player and return the next day. (DVDs sh*t me to tears with their non-fast-forwardable content and the constant problems getting them to play if they are dirty of your player is a bit old. - all reliant on this stupid laser and this crappy plastic.
But I'd go furhter and buy a whole hard drive with the complete collection of DR Who or say a jump stick with the collected works of Frank zapper - rather than go song by song or episode by episode. Then I get a nice box, a removable unit with the vids, (locked & readonly or whatever) and hopefully if its done right it contains all the old eps in date order and any bonus stuff in an extras folder.
Oh this only goes for any non-standard Free-to-air content - and of course anything that is not crap... for instance maybe they shouild distribut thepilot free or something. - anyway - my 2cnts |

Downloading your favorite episode of your favorite sitcom is the better option than to buy the DVD for this particular one. In my opinion download is really the worth option. |

If I download an episode of X show, I give no money to the ones that have created it.
If I clear my life and watch the X show on TV when it's brodcasted I contribute with a small amount via the TV supplier I have (I hope).
Since I still pay my monthly bill to my TV supplier I contribute to loads of stuff even if I don't watch it, even X show, so no one lose money if I download X show, rather the complete opposite since I need to pay an ISP to have a internet connection to be able to download in the first place.
Summary:
The creator(s) of TV-shows lose no money on the downloaders and ISP's gain huge amounts of money on users wanting to have a connection as fast as possible.
Any other question? Should I explain how we can have world peace? |
