movies protected by cinavia will play on your pc,most dvd players, supposedly Xbox and maybe some bluray players.

it is a DRM protection and will not play in PS3 or most bluray player.it may play mute or for a certain time and go mute or not play at all.

google it for a better explanation.

This is the first I've heard of this and it sounds interesting. Don't completely understand what they're doing though. Am I to understand that they spliced some kind of signal into the original audio which when played back through a cinavia enabled system will keep the file from playing back properly?

If that's the case I have to hand it to them because that's pretty clever. Not without its workarounds of course but clever all the same.

If that's not what's going on here than some kind of technical insight would be appreciated. The couple articles I read weren't real specific about how it works so I sort of had to fill in the blanks myself.

Thats the way i understand it, i think the player is looking for the appropriate audio "watermark". I can try and convert the audio to something else, or to DVD video, but unfortunately i dont have a PS3 to test Laughing

Hilarious. Laughing

If it's a signal that's been added to the audio track I'm wondering what keeps people from hearing this signal alongside the movie audio. I'm guessing it's probably an ultra high signal that can't be heard by the human ear. If that's the case than maybe some audio editing software could cut off any signals above say... 20khz. If that works than I figure it's only a matter of time before software becomes easily available that's simply used for 'trimming the fat' off movies.

A potential solution that I found on another site....

Quote:
Solution: If you are getting the Cinavia DRM problem with PS3, you can remove the watermark by downloading ‘tunebite’ and converting it to 256kps MP3

Thats just for you guys. I dont tend to watch backups on my PS3 so don't really care. Although Sony is slowly destroying its console by messing with its functionality all the time. Shame, I prefer it to my 360 but Sony are behaving worse than Microsoft these days.

did anyone say if it actually worked.because jaybob releases are mp3 but i think they are 128kps.wonder if maybe that person had an older version of ps3 and didn't need to convert or needed to for another reason.

I can test it if you want. im not sure how i could access the file. My ps3 is less than 12 months old. im not sure if this would change things. I don't connect it to the net but did put on a firmware update a while ago (6 months) i can easily format it as i don't keep the HD full, i use USB sticks.
