Hi Guys:
Now, I've been running utorrent on PC for a very long time, but now I want to run it on MAC. I just have a question about that, once I install utorrent in my mac I need something like IP Dat Filter on my PC.
My question is, is there something similar to ip dat filter that I can use for MAC? Thanks in advance guys. |

It was very high on the request list when utorrent first released for mac, I don't know if they have taken care of it yet or not. I suppose the easiest way to find out would be to see if it's in options anywhere.
I can't personally verify because I don't have a mac on hand to check with. |

used it myself but prefer transmission. Transmission is native cocoa build meaning very fast very efficient on the Mac. it also integrates the regular block list data base and is updated regularly. Vuze has more tweaking options but hogs your system resources and is sooooooooo heavy I cannot lift my laptop when loaded
utorrent works well but as stated transmission for Mac is best. |

So, basically transmission is another Bittorrent client and it's better for MAC OS. Hmmm, so i don't need anything to update my list like on my PC every time I launch utorrent I launch ip dat filter to update the list. So, I don't need this method with MAC OS and Transmission? |

You can run both on the Mac at the same time without worries.
Just ensure that they are not downloading the same file.
I did this so that I could make an assessment of which worked better.
I noticed that whilst a client should be just that and for the rest unbiased i found that transmission gave me a broader spectrum of peer results.
Utorrent works great but I had a feeling that it was a little more selective in that most connected peers were utorrent. Much higher % than with Transmission. Not a bad thing but I find that very often when looking for anything mac my transmission downloads were so much faster but that could be coincidence. As for movie and music platform makes no difference but transmission is for me the fastest out there. I have 512 kb/s connection here in China. Highest I can get at the moment where I live but transmission maxes me out to 498kp/s all the time and still i can use the nets to flood IH with my nonsense
EDIT: a couple of interesting points. Transmission is using only 1.2% of my CPU and takes only 44.6mb of memory. I can't remember what utorrent used and these numbers I know only cause I just looked it up in my activity monitor |

Thanks for the information there. I will be sure to give Transmission a try. I do have a quick question. Once I downloaded, will I have to tweak the preferences like I had to with Utorrent?
Thanks for the help. |

If you just want to download torrents without the blocklist or anything else enabled then you can just leave it alone, but the I suggest you have it on all the time as well as protocol encryption.
So the blocklist and encryption should be the only settings you should need to change providing the ports are set right. Just make sure your 'peers' page looks like johnno's.... You should be fine then.
Also you might find other things you want to tweak within the preferences section so make sure you have a good snoop around. |

I downloaded Transmission for MAC and it forces quit on my all the time... It displays the spinning beach ball and then I have to force quit because it won't respond.
Update:
It seems that it has stop force quitting on me. Now, the problem is that I want my completed torrents to go to a certain folder in another hdd and I specified this on transmission but it still doesn't do it. My torrents keep on going to my downloads folder, I checked and the settings look good. |

thnx tazzzz
then I do not understand the issue.
I am running 10.6.4 with a quad intel but the transmission he needs is version 2.11 I have never had transmission breakdown or quit on me. I even use a lot of their daily beta builds.???
S the system is good and if he is using the latest public release their should be no issues. if there is then it is a conflict elsewhere in the system. |

My apple machine is a Mac OS X 10.6.4 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory 4 GB with 256 of Video memory.... Oh, and this is a 32-Bit.
I think those are pretty decent specs, not as powerful as my PC but I intent to buy an extra 4 more GB of memory ram, and it an !5 processor.
As for the Transmission software, I downloaded it from the actual transmission for mac web page. From here
http://www.transmissionbt.com/download.php
I click on this
Oh I almost forgot to mention. It seems like the force quit issue has stop. Now, here is a new issue, I went into the preferences and I wanted my incomplete torrents to go to a certain folders and the completed torrents to another folder.
Well, the incomplete torrents are doing what they are supposed to while the completed torrents are still going to my download folder instead of the complete torrents folder on my external HDD.
Any ideas guys? |
