i need DVD and CD rom drive help QUICK!

Hello,

Im compleatly stumped on this and i like to think of myself as to know quite alot about computers. Ive had this problem before but, however i can remeber how i fixed it. Anyway....Everytime i put a CD or DVD into the computer and open My computer the title of the CD comes up fine. Then i right click to explor the disk the computer freazes. Everytime i try to burn a DVD i get a message saying to please inset a blank disk and i keep putting new blank ones and no change. I swapped out the DVD rom drive with another and i have the same issue.

And oh yea, i got error - SUNKIST.notifyicondata.hWnd.shwicon2k.exe

Idk what that means but when i did a little investigation shwicon2k.exe is my multimedia card reader.

its a registry problem.. but however i was only proficient with the windows registry in the win 95-98 days.. allow me to emphasize 'WAS'
