- You can use boolean operators (-, |, OR), wildcards (*, ?), and phrase search (") in your query
- For BitTorrent: Paste in a 40 characters info_hash, to search for that particular torrent and get all trackers for it

isoHunt's BitTorrent index now expanded to
20000+
torrents across 200+ pages, updated every hour. My
BT Hub
idea is also moving along nicely. I expect the system to be fully operational (lol I like that line) before Christmas, and if it gains widespread use, it will solve bit torrent's tainted problem of dead trackers and torrent sites.
In a nutshell, to participate in the system, you'll:
1. Use {40-byte torrent hash}.bthub.com as the tracker URL for all torrents created
2. Use a client that supports the proposed multitracker spec (most experimental clients like Azureus and TheShadow supports it)
Torrents using this "universal tracker URL" will gain the benefit of:
1. Routing to the optimal tracker, where the most ppl are "swarming" your torrent you want to d/l
2. Re-routing to a single new tracker when the original dies, so all clients get re-routed to it, avoiding the split of the swarm across different trackers
3. As a result, everyone gets fastest download speed
And to make the torrent creation process seamless, I'll talk to maketorrent client authors to add an option in making torrents, where it automatically generates BTHub's tracker URL with the unique torrent hash. Stay tuned
And in related news, there's a
neat hack of using the DNS to serve torrent files themselves
. Bad idea to use widely, but a neat trick nonetheless |

the nice thing with DNS is u can setup a round robin of multiple name servers at the internet root servers. Once i get the system running, i'll document how it's set up and a way to sync the databases across the servers. So 3rd parties can setup "BTHub servers" under the bthub.com domain. If i get financial support, i can also setup a local cluster of servers.
so it's a scalable network of DNS servers that routes clients to trackers |
