my favorite and probably one of the best singers out there is Corey Taylor from Slipknot/Stone Sour.

but by far the f#ucking coolest dude is George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher from Cannibal Corpse. I met him several times and man, this guy growls for the imo best band ever and is still so down to earth it's like you're talking to a (really big and sometimes appearantly scarry lol) friend. Oh and he has a great sense of humor Very Happy

Of all time I'd have to say Freddy Mercury... but for me personally it's a tie between Tom Chaplin of Keane and Chad Kroeger of Nickelback. For two very different reasons.

Tom Chaplin's voice live is the most hauntingly beautiful voice, the lyrics just make it perfect. Whereas Chad Kroeger has just got that perfect gruff voice that just makes for classic Rock!

Not entirely sure how I missed this topic before now...

Hard to beat, alright.
I've just been learning "La Donna e Mobile" which he also sang the hell out of.
For that style of tenor though, I prefer Placido Domingo. I think that most tenors would hold him in higher regard.

Hmmm...
My two cents for classical would be:

Tenor: Placido Domingo
Baritone: Bryn Terfel
Bass: Phillip Quast

Jeff Buckley had one of the finest rock instruments that I've ever heard.
Freddy was phenomenal.
Elvis was an amazing vocalist... and there's a long list still to come but a favourite?
A favourite, a favourite, a favourite...?!

Mandy Patinkin is probably my all time favourite ...and his vocal control is just superb
He's been a massive vocal influence for some years now. He's technically flawless and pitch perfect.
One hell of an actor too... (imho)

edit ...and the list would be a lot longer if I were to include female vocalists... Rolling Eyes

Agreed and duplicated !

Robert Smith for sure ! Not the greatest usually but when he sings properly he really does sing, he has perfected the talking/singing style and his voice in songs like Love Song, the Love Cats or To Wish Impossible Things is superb. Live he is superb, count the "again and again" repetitions in a Forest .....
Anyway, I'm biased.

Just so many great singers so a favourite is hard to pick. Maxi jazz from faithless does not really sing but his lyrics make him one of my favourite artists.
I also really like Roy Harper and John Martyn.
In the world of names that a more well known Freddie had a great voice but he also sang in a style that you could hear and understand every word.
Other singers with a voice and clarity I like are Roger Daltry and Jim Morrison so I suppose I have to make the conclusion that I do not really have a favourite as there are just too many great singers.
