SP1 includes both a massive number of security updates, as well new WGA support.

Service Pack 1 is fine. My version of windows 7 didn't put any money in Bill Gates bulging pocket either. Just don't install an update title KB971033 all others I have installed with no problems. Wink

Hey gazsstar106!

I don't know about the ones Bill crapped out on but, I have SP1 (leaked) installed on a ASUS notebook since January 21 from this site :

http://blocked because of spamsoftware/software_type/os_lowlevel/SP1_RTM_for_Windows_7_and_Windows_Server_R2_x86_x64_IA64.html

and shows up as SP1 in (not Beta) System Properties :

So far, nothing has broken OR have interfered with any work applications or games I play.

IF you feel the need to keep yours up to date, you can download all monthly patches fro Aaron Kelley's site :

http://aaron-kelley.net/tech/windows/hotfix/win7-rtm/

Just be careful to choose the right (32 or 64bit) one.

I just installed SP1 on friday.... seems a sp that works.lol I like windows but, finally something that I really like. there are some things I like XP for that is missing in seven though. you'll have to use CMD more...
Well, to get back on subject here....... I installed sp on friday and restart to run the new registry.... task manager, performance monitor..... and WOW.... the ram usage is down 200 MB nice..... same on my laptop( ASUS N51vn) RAM usage is down and runs different...that is a good thing. why they took so long I will never know...... Two thumbs up to MS......

My only complaint since installing sp1 (and I have a legit copy of windows) is that all my large apps and games seem to load slower now.
I've gone tracing the source of the problem all over and just can't seem to locate what the actual cause is. I can say it is definitely related to the install of sp1 though.

Aside from that everything still works no crashes no blue screens, just slower load times and it annoys me.

I installed SP1 2 days ago and it killed my PC, It installed it then failed to reboot. So I re-imaged, I don't think ill try it again though. Don't know why i happened but have not really found a need for it.
