mIRC v7.1 is out, not sure how long now, but I am using it now, and am pleased with it. OF course, it isn't free, but you can try it for 30 days (not sure if you can keep using like v6, just with nag screen, but probably so). I like it so far.

From there "latest news" page:

Quote:
mIRC 7.1 has been released! (July 30th 2010)

This is the first stable release of the new Unicode version of mIRC.

The project to convert mIRC to Unicode has taken almost two years of development and testing and has required tens of thousands of changes to 150,000+ lines of source code. This has been the most complex and time-consuming update to mIRC since it was created in 1995, when it started out as a non-Unicode, 16-bit, Windows 3.1 application.

Many areas of mIRC have had to be updated or re-written, from file handling to text processing, from display to memory allocation, from server communications to file transfers.

mIRC should now be faster, more stable, and more compatible with the latest versions of Windows, and should be able to better handle the display and input of a variety of languages.

In addition to being converted to Unicode, there are a few other notable changes:

* Improved Windows 7 compatibility
* More reliable INI file handling
* Faster text display/scrolling
* Speech support
* Improved interface design for a number of features
* Automatic text color correction
* Menubar ALT key show/hide feature
* Support for italic text and other font styles
* Optimized SSL routines
* Status window SSL connection icon
* IPv6 support
* Improved portable support
* Persistent channel history
* Digitally signed executables
* Automatic splitting of long channel/private messages
* Full screen display with F11 function key
* UPnP support
* Many bug fixes
* And more

One of the features that I enjoy, albeit a small feature, is its new support of italic text, which doesn't leave me stuck with bold or underlined print for words I want to draw emphasis to.

This isn't really going to be relevant for anybody who isn't a moderator but this version seems to have an issue with SSL and Stuntour. It wouldn't start properly for me and I have a license.
If anyone figures this out please let me know.

I haven't updated my mirc yet but have you tried ssleay?

Quote:
download these two DLLs. libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll. These are available at:

Code:
http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?libeay32

and
Code:
http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?ssleay32

These two files needs to be extracted to your mIRC install directory.

Once you have extracted these files, you must close your mIRC client and restart it.
Use the following syntax to connect via SSL:

use port +6697 or +7000 the "+" is important.

Not wanting to take anything away from prior postings but I thought it could do with an update.

All files are self installing and setup is basic however, I have done this based on some knowledge of your system.

For anyone interested in coming over to IRC for a chat, the latest version of mIRC is now 7.19 and can be downloaded from

http://www.mirc.com/get.html

As the channel is on a p2p network you will also need to install the OpenSSL library

An installer for OpenSSL 0.9.8r can be downloaded from this link

http://www.mirc.com/download/openssl/openssl-0.9.8r-setup.exe

Once you have both files start by installing mIRC.

Go to your download folder and double clicking the “ mirc719.exe ” file.
After instillation, unclick the run mirc and read me box and close it by clicking on finish.

At this stage your download window should still be open.
Double click on the “ openssl-0.9.8r-setup.exe ” file.

You will need to install the OpenSSL library in either the mIRC folder (typically C:\Program Files\mIRC) or in the Windows System folder (typically C:\Windows\System32).
If you install it in the mIRC folder, OpenSSL will only be usable by mIRC.
If you install it in the Windows System folder, OpenSSL will be usable by all applications.

If you are not sure where, go with the mIRC folder as shown above.

Once installation is complete you are ready to setup mIRC itself.

Open mIRC by the option you selected during installation.

For the time being click continue. You have a thirty day evaluation period to register.

mIRC will open and this box will appear.

Image

To the top left and under connect, click on Servers

Image

Fill this box in as shown.

Description: p2p network

IRC Server: irc.p2p-network.net

Port: +7000

Group:isohunt (This can be anything, it’s just a way of identifying the server in the server list)

Go to the top left again and click on Connect. This will take you back to where you were.

Enter your proffered nickname and an alternative as I have in the second image.
Don’t be smart and try using my nick, nickserv will change it within a minute as it is registered to me.

Click Connect.

Once connected to will see this.

Image

Type #isohunt in the top txt box and click the Join button beside and you are there.

When you enter the channel for the first time you should always read the topic. This will tell you what the channel rules are.

Have a read here https://isohunt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=85916

Secondly, you should say hello, this will confirm you are not a bot and always be courteous until you are known by other users.

Meet the people behind the comments but most of all, have fun

For a list of commands type /msg nickserv help in the 1st window. The status window

For detailed instructions on the topic you are looking up type
/msg nickserv help then the command you want
