Never use words from the dictionary as that is the first thing any cracking software uses.
Use random letters and numbers it also good to throw in a symbol or two.

Use something easy to remember like say your favorite song was Cannibal Corpse - Under the Rotted Flesh from the album Butchered at Birth released July 1, 1991 you might use 19^CcUtRF-bAb*91 see what I did there?

That would be a hard to crack password.

And yes I like Cannibal Corpse. Wink

In my experience, making a strong password usually leads to having to write them down somewhere, like on a .txt file... which you then password protect with an easy password...

Kinda defeats the object. Laughing

Mind you, I'm just very forgetful.

If you have £/$5,000 worth of software, i'd make a backup of the backup of the original and store them in 3 different places. I'd go as far as storing the keys in a cloud based environment. Encrypting a key is as simple as reversing the numbers and adding your birth date somewhere in the string. whose going to know what a string of numbers mean and what order they should be in if they're gotten hold of? especially if you don't add the program names to the keys, just a memorable reference.
My dropbox contains most of my most used keys, all rearranged to a system i can remember. I also have them stored elsewhere in an encrypted filesystem, just to be certain they're secure.
USB sticks also come with secure partitions (TDK/Maxell etc) really useful for storing a .txt file of your keys. They're cheap enough to buy and small enough to squirrel away until needed.
If you purchase software and register your details, does that not count as proof of ownership? If you have registered your software and you contact the company, they will usually try to help if you explain the circumstances.
As your a business owner, insurance companies sometimes provide cover for replacement software, if they don't, i'd look into a separate policy that provides cover for replacement costs.
Software in itself is usually available around the web, downloading it and using your original keys makes your software legit as far as the law is concerned.
Printing out your software registration is another option for proof of ownership, but insurance companies are mostly determined to not pay out, unfortunate, but fact.
Hope some of the above may help, and I hope they catch the culprit

Give away of the day has "doc Lock" to download for the next 19hours ..

docLock allows you to password protect any file or folder on your computer with ease. Keep sensitive information completely secure from anyone who may access your computer and keep your personal information in your control at all times.

edit: ........ the comments say it's useless but provide a link for EncryptOnClick as an alternative, it's freeware.

The problem is if these passwords were easy to crack they wouldn't exist. There is no absolutely perfect of cracking .rar's. Also, if a torrent needs a password, it's generally not a good torrent.

you're spamming a bunch of comments without a clue what the previous conversations were about.suggest you slow down and read a little before you get yourself banned.mods don't like following after people and locking threads that had already been solved, etc.
