Tried to figure it out with a guy at work today, and we (well mainly him) came up with... Thomas Dolby??
Also spent way to much time on it, but was fun actually. |

Thomas Dolby It is.
here is his website:
http://thomasdolby.com/
Here are the three songs in the clues with quoted lyrics:
Airhead
One of our Submarines
Hyperactive!
And his biggest hit that became an iconic video from the early days of MTV:
She Blinded Me With Science
Here is an awesome video from his latest release:
The Toadlickers
My screen name was inspired by Dolby's album -- The Flat Earth. |

Thank @&%#, that was hard. (even harder not to not google it)
How different can The Toadlickers be from She Blinded Me With Science? Whoa.... but I like it!
Good on ya flatearth.
I've got a good one,
What band named themselves after this sculpture?
And one of their songs after this one.

Yeah that Toadlickers video is the coolest thing ever. They have these animal puppets doing all manner of odd things. There is a hookah smoking cat, a dog who shoots up, another dog who dresses up as a sheep to trick a sheep into having sex, dancing cowgirl chickens, pigs dressed up as British Bobbies---- This video has it all.
| Quote: |
| "The Toadlickers" is nominated for a Webby Award. This is the most bizarre, surreal techno/bluegrass mashup you will ever see. The cool Dobro-playing rebel Dolby is flanked by scantily clad burlesque models pursued by Parkour-running Toadlickers in Prince Charles masks. |
As for your riddle, I haven't a clue --- so I for one will be needing one. Please. |

I used to live in Seattle a while back and I think I vaguely remember seeing that first sculpture. I have no idea what it is called.
Thinking of Seattle band names that would also make a logical choice for a name of that sculpture does no good so I'll make a wild guess and say Screaming Trees. |

Not quite but same era and similar style, bit harder edge. Got much more mainstream attention than The Screaming Trees.
The song won best metal/hard rock song MTV awards in its day. |

That's right cbilljones, nice one!
The sculpture is called A Sound Garden (1982) and is a public artwork. It catches the wind and the pipes and reverberating metal create eerie but soothing music as the wind passes through.
The other picture is of the Black Sun sculpture (1969), inspiring Soundgarden's hit "Black Hole Sun".
Bad luck flatearthling, you were getting close there.
cbilljones, do you want to test us with a question? |
