The hard drive is half empty ( I have 6TB of external srorage so everything that can goes on them.) |
Do you download to the external ones directly or do you download to your internal drive first and then move it? |

To Disable Selective Suspend:
open the control panel
go to power options (you may have to set view to small icons)
click change plan settings
in the window that opens:
click change plan settings
click change advanced power settings, expand usb and ensure usb selective suspend is disabled.
if you are going directly to externals you should follow the above instructions.
That feature screws up everything. |

Ok, so last night I defrag'd my hard drive and uninstalled Utorrent 3.0 and went back to 1.8.2 (last version of Utorrent I used that I can remember not having this problem.
@Sued: I download directly to my internal and only move torrents once I have seeded them.
@C_F: I recall you giving this advise on another thread some time ago and I implemented it then.
Will roll with the setup I have got for the time being and see if the problem persists. Also going to directly connect my laptop to my router and download the torrent I was after last night and see if the faster processor / less full Hard Drive help the problem. (laptop is on version 3.0) |

one thing I did find strangely helpful about having two different versions on
my computer was that I could switch between the two at any time which
was quite useful, for example if I updated to a newer version that wasn't
very good I could simply revert back to the other one & put any active
torrents into it, having said that I don't recommend having two versions,
both versions were listed in control panel, add & remove programs,
whilst bearing that in mind there was only one version listed in the start
menu so it was confusing if I clicked on the one in the start menu there was
no way of knowing which version would start up, crazy eh,
but like I said earlier it was early days for me in the torrenting world,
yeah I recommend defragging at least once a week, it's essential to the
smooth running & stability of any computer, also I recommend running
the defragmentor 2-3 times to begin with considering that you've never
done it or very rarely defrag your computer,
you should see a noticeable degree of improved performance,
hope you get it sorted bro.
edit: you can also pin the defrag program to your star menu if you right
click on the defrag program & select pin to start menu,
it saves having to go through start > accessories > system tools > disc defragmenter. |

Depends on what you use your computer for when it comes to defragging, I hardly ever do mine, cant even remember the last time i did it. If you are installing and uninstalling programs all the time you need to do it more often but if you is just surfing the net and watching movies it wont get "fragged" that much. And you only need do it the once when you do it, after that if you try again it will just tell you it does not need defragging. I lot of pre brought computers are set to defrag once a week weather they need it or not. |

yeah trollster your right about that however I did notice that downloading
does cause a lot of fragmentation,
here's a screenshot of mine after not defragging for two weeks on my xp,
btw I never use this one for downloading,
love the before & after graphic description of the condition of the drive
so you can see for youself,
sadly you just don't get that with win 7....
all it tells you is it's been defragged,
