Mona Lisa is a "He", I always felt it.

Italian researchers believe they've solved the mystery of the Mona Lisa model ... the she, was a he.

“Salai was very handsome and probably Leonardo’s lover. He stole from Leonardo and caused him many problems, but the artist always forgave him.”

“Several of Leonardo’s works, including two paintings of St John the Baptist and a lesser-known drawing called “Angel Incarnate,” were based Salai. There were striking similarities between those works and that of the Mona Lisa, particularly in the depiction of mouths and noses.”

Quote:
It is the most famous portrait of a woman in existence. But, according to one expert, its model might not be a woman at all.

Italian researcher Silvano Vinceti announced Wednesday that the Mona Lisa may have been based on a male apprentice and probable lover of Renaissance artist Leonardo da Vinci. Gian Giacomo Caprotti, known affectionately as “Salai” or Little Devil, inspired other works by the master.

Theories about who was “really” sitting in da Vinci’s studio while he painted the Mona Lisa are like theories about who “really” wrote Shakespeare’s plays. As soon as one is dismissed, another pops up to take its place. Each time, it never fails to attract attention.

In the past, scholars have claimed da Vinci based the portrait on his mother or on himself.

The current consensus is more prosaic, and more likely: It was a portrait of Lisa Gherardini, the wife of a Florentine merchant.

Who might have been happiest to hear the news? Da Vinci Code scrivener Dan Brown, to be sure. He now has the perfect material for a sequel.

Question is, did leonardo dress up Gian Giacomo Caprotti aka salai and
painted mona lisa..!!
Researchers claimed "yeah he did".

It seems to me to somewhat far fetched........even publicity seeking.

It is an almost universally acknowledged fact it was Lisa del Giocondo, who was the model. As for similarities...there is a ton of lore about that. It is after all a 500 hundred year old picture. Infact the best one is probably the resemblance to is own self portrait.

Among others that is.

It is a fascinating field, is the study of the works of Da Vinci.

Yeah, scary indeed.
But the scarier part is, imagining the original portrait is of a man's, cause i've
been told that it's of his wife since i was a kid.
Whatever their publicity trick it might be, it sure tumbled the perspective of
the painting analysts who explained the painting's history to everyone all
these years, including art enthusiasts.
It's feels like a bad song you just heard keep playing inside your head, and you humming it.
