Solved as in Norton is a big steaming pile of shit, right? Seriously just avoid anything containing that name (especially Norton Ghost I might add). |

if by any chance your hard drives are western digital then I would download their free cloning tool.
I like it as they clone your drive to another and when finished it is identical byte for byte and bootable.
I use it myself and it has never failed me. Quite fast as well.
interface is easy to follow and no fanfare or tiresome procedures. |

Indeed it is Pac. The main reason I needed Norton to work just one more time was to recover my files. Now that I've done it, Norton is gone.
@cbilljones: Thanks for the idea. Will be doing that later today.
@johnno23: One of my externals is WD. Not sure what make my internal O/S drive is. Would I still be able to clone it or do both drives have to be WD? |

I only have WD drives unless they are SSD but the software only sees WD so I suppose all must be the answer. |

Although Kaspersky loves RAM... never had any issues with it. Norton does seem useless, I think my stapler would make a better AV!
Glad you've sorted it, I don't know how Norton keeps making money with their useless bloatware!
I've used a similar cloning tool... it's awesome, I have a small 250GB external hard drive stored in my cupboard for emergencies and I reclone around every month. Don't think I do enough weird stuff to make it BSOD, but it's nice to have the peace of mind. |

jxy your stapler would fasten them bugs so tight to the table that the screams would cause Norton to have compassion and come rescue the little blighters |

never had a thing good to say about norton , the instant they started demanding yearly ransom for the product instead of selling it to you in perpetuity you like normal companies do. |

imaging is always better than cloning, you make an image, then you can recreate byte by byte or just recover files. It also takes up alot less space. If you dont want to spend a few bucks i imagine there are cheaper ways to acquire acronis... I image right over the network to another PC, just boot up my acronis usb and away i go. I just bought it at work for $50 cause my version didnt have the usb tool.
