the Shawshank Redemption was also a good Stephen King film and the original Salem's Lot .........

I seem to be reading several books at once, the Hobbit (Tolkien) and a couple of Discworld books, Wyrd Sisters and Night Watch-both by Mr Sir Pratchett .......

Im reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. IH was telling me how the movie was a bit disappointing compared to the book so I wanted to see what I missed, seeing as the the movie hinted at a few things then never really elaborated. I started last night and got through 111 pages which in the movie was about the first 20 minutes lol.

just read all eleven books from "Ender" series by Orson Scott Card..... quite brilliant.
Especially the 1st 4. The rest are good but you need to be a bookaholic as myself to wade through so much.

Am now about to re read the "Mote in Gods Eye" by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle. its an older book from 1974 but very interesting. read it last back around 1976 so time to refresh them beer inhibited braincells Smile

I've read 'The Slap' a few days ago and I loved it.
This book is about 'family' and what goes on under the surface.
How would you react if someone slapped your child?

Badly... I would react badly and violently... No one touches my kids, no chance Exclamation Exclamation

To stay on topic, I am about to start re-reading another series of books, The Obernewtyn Chronicles by Isobelle Carmody - Aussie author, so some/most of you probably haven't heard of her.

It's really a young adult fiction/fantasy series, but since I started it as a teen, and the last book is yet to be released, I still continue it and enjoy it Smile

It's a post-post-post-apocalyptic series, several hundred years after a nuclear disaster on Earth, some parts of the world are still toxic. Almost no tech. Certain people have magic/psychic type abilities, which are named evil and said to be result of the toxins, and they usually get burned to death; as does anyone who uses or researches tech. The series follows a large group of these mutant "misfits", as they discover their abilities, fight the establishment, fight to survive and discover ancient history (our near future), as well as try to regain lost tech and such...

I do love the post-apocalyptic stories Very Happy

Does it get any better in the later books? I'm in the middle of book 5 and can't get myself to continue reading, it feels like a waste of time.

Hence I've just read within a week all three Stig Larson books about the Girl with the Dragon Tatoo. This never happend to me before, I just couldn't stop reading. Being a thriller it's not even my prefered genre (which is fantasy) but the tension is so high through out all three books that it's almost impossible to lay them down. When I finished reading it I felt kinda empty, so I also bought (not downloaded Wink) all three movies just to get that tension again.

So for one week, I was totally hooked into Stig Larsons world. Pitty he died so early Sad

It does and it doesn't... It gets slower and I swear some of the books are set during a single day, but at the same time more facts and secrets are revealed..
Basically some things get more interesting and others just piss you off majorly (especially the attitudes of the female characters)..

Though I love the series I have to be honest, if you can't stand it yet, then I wouldn't bother with the rest...

thanks for the honest reply, I thought so. I even bought the sixt book too, maybe some day I'll continue on reading them but I'm not to sure about it Rolling Eyes

BTW, you're from Australia? Ever read Ian Irvine's Three Worlds Cycle? For me it stands above all fantasy books I've ever read, which is probably the reason why I don't get hooked by the Wheel of Time series. I was expecting something similar but WoT is far less original. It reads like a mixture between LotR (Trollocs and Fades^^) and Dune (the whole Aeiel part) where as Irvine took a completely different approach towards drama, magic and fantasy then I've seen in any other books, especially because there is no Good vs Evil metastory.

If you're not familiar with the Three Worlds Cycle and obviously like epic stories, give it a try Wink
