Problems viewing torrents. (not a codec problem)

I am currently having issue's watching torrents that have clearly fully downloaded. From trusted uploaders, where the comments on the torrents are all positive.

Mac user (noob Mac user)
OS X 10.6.7
utorrent (noob torrent dowloader)

Opening the torrent is not a problem, I have all the appropriate codecs.
The file has fully downloaded.

But...

Sometimes the torrent just seems to cut off once I open it.. I just D/L'ed The hangover 2. File size is correct, but once opened and playing the media player displays the video as a 2 second file... plays for the 2 seconds then that's it?

Has happened with a Thor download from ISOHUNTS greatest, which cut off @ 1hour 15mins?

Cars 2 was another has a big green line across the middle of the screen plays for 30 seconds with nothing really visable, then finishes.

Every comment left on these torrents has been positive.. I am not at all questioning the credibility of these files/uploader.

Is their something that I could be doing wrong? I am fairly new to torrents but from what I can work out when downloading it takes little pieces from different uploaders, could it be that my pieces aren't linking when played? That could be a total NOOB question lol. But I seriously have no idea. Help please.

I searched through the sticky's and didn't find anything that related to my problem. If there is a thread related to this issue - apologies for creating a new one.

is the file completely downloaded... not the .torrent file.. the movie file

also what kind of files are they and where did you get them.. link to page

provided it's actually completely downloaded, the green line has me asking did you download more than one codec package and are possibly getting a conflict,are your gpu drivers up to date.

for mac you want perian codecs and watch in quicktime and/or vlc for mac i think.

transmision works best for mac. utorrent is ok but transmission runs native and is faster. utorrent is a better app for the PC.

You may have a fake file. ?? A movie that lays for about 2 seconds in vlc and then quits on the mac is invariably a fake in my noob experience several years ago.

It might be helpful if you can post a link so that others can check.
In the meantie as you are new a welcome is in order and please have a look here at this sticky guide just to make sure you can spot a fake. Some people give fakes a positive vote just to be a pain in the butt.

This is the cars 2 file, Found here on Isohunt.

File is fully downloaded. Had finished downloading and displayed seeding as status in utorrent

(when opened displays a 31sec file with a green line across the centre, no other images)

Hangover 2, found via Isohunt.

quicktime and avi works some of the time but don't bother. Use VLC.
and please post the link to the file not the download link

bugger got ninja'd twice by the same nephilim.
No reports of a green line across the screen in the jaybob site.
USe google and just type VLC its a free download and then try to play the movie. VLC is now intel native on the mac and runs any movie you can throw at it. Quicktime sucks and I use Macs for more than 20 years
