BTW, you're from Australia? Ever read Ian Irvine's Three Worlds Cycle? For me it stands above all fantasy books I've ever read, which is probably the reason why I don't get hooked by the Wheel of Time series. I was expecting something similar but WoT is far less original. It reads like a mixture between LotR (Trollocs and Fades^^) and Dune (the whole Aeiel part) where as Irvine took a completely different approach towards drama, magic and fantasy then I've seen in any other books, especially because there is no Good vs Evil metastory.
If you're not familiar with the Three Worlds Cycle and obviously like epic stories, give it a try |
I own half his 3 Worlds books in paper back, and the other half in Ebooks.. Very good stories and definitely some of the most original ideas I've come across so far, too many series are obviously plagiarised, WoT is one of course, though Robert Jordan freely admitted to borrowing from a few other authors - which makes it somewhat easier to get over the fact...
I am very much looking forward to the next series in the 3 Worlds Cycle, though apparently it will be a couple years yet |

I've recently got into Bernard Cornwell's books. Great for some historical fiction! The Alfred the Great series is without a doubt worth a read! |

I'm reading Red Rabbit - Tom Clancy
First Clancy book I have read. I can see why it wasn't made into a movie like other "Jack Ryan" stories. |

Just finished reading the first trilogy of the Corean Chronicles, L.E. Modesitt Jr... Nice military fantasy novels, which I actually enjoy more I though I would...
Before moving to the 2nd trilogy I remembered that I have the new Discworld novel Snuff (Terry Pratchett) ready and waiting for me, so now I've moved onto the Night Watch books...
So, starting with Guards! Guards! right now, then I'll go through Men at Arms, Feet of Clay, Jingo, The Fifth Elephant, The Truth (NW related), Nightwatch and Thud, then I'll end with Snuff... I might add Going Postal and Making Money to the list, since they're also related, not sure yet...
But I am really enjoying the re-read, especially since the Night Watch are my favourite story arc in the Discworld |
