mjpeg converting.

hello everyone. wasnt sure where to put this post so hope i got it right. i have paid for (not received yet) a vtech innnotab. on reading what it does i was happy to see it plays videos but only in avi and compressed with a mjpeg codec. firstly i downloaded "super" converter which is easy to use, drag file, select output codec. i did this but the resulting vid is awful quality. grainy and pix elated beyond bad. i did some more research and found that virtualdub does it too, i already had this so downloaded the picvid mjpeg torrent from IH and installed. ran the original vid (avi-xvid) through it but again came out awful quality plus a 5gb file size! (i could prob fix that) my questions are is mjpeg format awful quality no matter what or if not am i using the wrong tools. if anyone thinks or knows of an avi player that could be loaded onto the innotab that would be even better! i cant find any. thanks in advance.

The file might look bad quality on your pc monitor but not as bad on the innnotab Wink

..For better results you would need to know innnotabs display resolution and convert the file close to that resolution.
avi is not the best format its outdated .

I am not too clued up on these Innotab thingies at all but anyway.

From what I have been reading around the web, they ain't too "high end" therefore if you want to watch videos, use something else Razz

I also read that some files upon conversion crashed the tablet when fast forwarded and also the sound quality on video playback was lower than normal.

Buy the kid a dvd player with a usb slot included Razz

ok taz will wait and see how it looks on the thing if it ever turns up! i was hoping that was the case. lol seth, already got a tv with usb and a formatted hdd with 144 dvds on, hardly portable and not as much fun.....when i were a lad lol, im not holding out much hope for playing films as as you say its a toy at the end of the day but to be fair it isnt that cheap!
thanks for the replies guys and i welcome any from others and any other suggestions. must be a light weight player i can put on it?

edit found a guide with an exact conversion process using avidemux. i did read a few comments about it messing up when ff on innotab seth and it looks like that happens if it hasnt been converted EXACTLY correct, frame rate sampling rate, bit rate and display and on and on. followed this guide, still looks pretty bad and a bit jumpy and fast but time will tell how it plays on the pad. fingers crossed.

mine is version 6, so if you can get that it would be the easiest to show you with as they would be the same.

afn09 RER Video Converter will convert video files to MJPEG its not the best of formats..

You can edit the profile to change the bit rate/frame rate/ and so on

I have used this software before they do have a HD Movie Converter that I still use from time to time..But the this one might do the trick for you good luck ..

nice one mate. i will defo get it and give it a go. im hoping like you said , on the tab it wont look so bad. i got to be honest, i do a lot of converting and messing around with all different formats video and audio and id never heard of it! thought avs would have heard of it. love vdub,does everything i need to vids but the pic was shit. will see how bad after xmas when i put them on! thanks for the link, will be on it tommorow when not so tired Cool

Total Video Converter will also convert to mjpeg it just not the best at converting vob files..

afn09 - xilisoft, convert it as an .avi and in the advance menu click on codec and second from the bottom is motion jpeg which is mjpeg Wink

sweet will check it now. i must be doing it wrong as i couldnt see it in total,rer or xili.
