Ok so my asus g50v laptop seems to be having issues charging so I busted open the case and checked out the MB to see if that jack looked alright. I however don't really know what a good jack looks like but, it didn't have any cracks or discolorations at the solder points. The one thing that makes me think it is the jack is when I wiggle around the charging plug it will flicker from charging to battery power. I also noticed there are little spring like mechanisms in the jack that probably help make the connections so I was figuring they had just lost some of their spring maybe since it is a 3 year old laptop.

So I was hoping to get some input from people in the hopes that someone will come up with another idea because the jack is integrated into the MB and I'm not so sure I trust my soldering skills with something on my MB.

Thanks,

Betelgeuse

sounds like your spot on, ive had many similar problems come to me.
either pay some one to desolder and resolder, or bite a bullet and doit yourself. eventually the spring tab inside the jack will break and short your battery. you need a desolder plunger, and or desolder wick, a bit of RADIO solder (not plumbers )and a quality low wattagge soldering pencil, a gun will burn your board.
heres a good link to look at:

If you live near Swansea, UK, give me a shout and i'll do it for you Smile
If not, get, scrounge, borrow a 15-25watt iron and try resoldering each pin. 3-8 seconds per pin with the iron should reflow the solder.
If it still keeps shorting, the sockets are available on amazon or ebay and any decent engineer could re-do it in 10-15 mins.
Make sure you choose the right connector though, there are different versions for different model versions.
