I'm sure you may have read already.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prometheus_(film)
(click prometheus fiilm)
Firstly, is this an 'Alien' prequel or not??
According to wiki many of the main cast and behind the scenes folk are saying it is a prequel YES, but I thought it wasn't? I thought Scott said he will make that after or soon??
Secondly, if you read the wiki page it also mentions Scott is making a PG-13!!! version of the film as well as an R rated version, Fox will review both!!? WTF! PG-13!! kiss my arse with that nonsense, I don't care if they release the R version on DVD and BR afterwards, its R rating OR NOTHING for me. It seems Fox were reluctant to give Scott the money he needed for a film that WASN'T PG-13! what a bunch of idiots! don't they know who Scott is! his visions, his track record in this field.....jesus christ!
Charlize Theron....bad casting choice there if you ask me
What it says on wiki sounds tremendous I must say but so far I really have no clue whats happening with the Alien line, prequel or not?
http://www.prometheusmovienews.com/
Pics here look 'Alien' for sure although the cockpit shots don't look so good. If this film isn't an Alien prequel then Scott may have made a bad choice as it sure as hell looks like Alien so far, in which case it will be considered an Alien copy and may not be received so well. |

Got AVP on BR the other day, it was a good film, I know it gets slated for not being "canon", but wth, they are just movies, I really enjoyed it anyway, it was cool watching Lance do the finger fillet with a pen |

i don't know if any of you guys noticed, but towards the end of Predator 2 we see Danny Glover's character in the Predator's ship, and we see a particular room of "Trophies". in this room there we see heads of various alien species: Space Jockey, Xenomorphs [Alien], and in the end of the movie Glover's character is given a trophy himself for slaying a Predator, an old pistol from the wild west era. a series of hints to future sequels and spin-off sequels that we have seen and will see more of.
plus there is this wiki article of future Predator sequels.

I think its a wait n see mate. Ridley was into a prequel years ago but left Cameron then had ideas and left the scene and finally Ridley came back and has been toying with ideas as philosophy and culture behind the Aliens. In an interview somewhere a couple of years back he was already toying with ideas of are the aliens a bio created weapon or are they an independant space faring race. Either way he seems to have taken on board ideas that the Aliens need some form of culture and that mankind is also not an accident of nature but has its roots elsewhere or at the very least kickstarted by outside interference.
There are some references to the Alien movie but the time frame being 30 years or so pre seems to be about it. Last thing i read was it would be unforgiving and surprising. Well Ridley has pretty much always surprised me so I look forward to this one. |

I heard a theory that the Xenomorphs were created for slave labor, obedient servants to an extinct race of beings. could have something to do with Space Jockeys.
| Wikipedia on Set Design & Filming of Alien wrote: |
The set with the deceased alien creature, which the production team nicknamed the "space jockey", proved problematic as 20th Century Fox did not want to spend the money for such an expensive set that would only be used for one scene. Ridley Scott described the set as the cockpit or driving deck of the mysterious ship, and the production team was able to convince the studio that the scene was important to impress the audience and make them aware that this was not a B movie. To save money only one wall of the set was created, and the "space jockey" sat atop a disc that could be rotated to facilitate shots from different angles in relation to the actors. Giger airbrushed the entire set and the "space jockey" by hand.
The origin of the jockey creature was not explored in the film, but Scott later theorized that it might have been the ship's pilot, and that the ship might have been a weapons carrier capable of dropping Alien eggs onto a planet so that the Aliens could use the local lifeforms as hosts. In early versions of the script the eggs were to be located in a separate pyramid structure which would be found later by the Nostromo crew and would contain statues and hieroglyphs depicting the Alien reproductive cycle, offering a contrast of the human, Alien, and space jockey cultures. Cobb, Foss, and Giger each created concept artwork for these sequences, but they were eventually discarded due to budgetary concerns and the need to trim the length of the film. Instead the egg chamber was set inside the derelict ship and was filmed on the same set as the space jockey scene; |
