Ive never actually done this in windows but i do it alot in ubuntu which has "shared to other computers" setting for network adapters. All the info to set this up properly in XP should be on this page:

its a good question and one that was answered.
Changed the title so that others might find it.
left it open in case others need similar help.

google has public dns numbers which are quite useful. Used them myself here in Chia in the past. The whatever I suppose relates to the fact that there are plenty of options for open dns numbers.
China telecom even have a couple which were needed a few years ago otherwise the nets were sooooo slooooow when visiting any site outside of China.

my favorite DNS is 4.2.2.1~6, a very publicly available number for DNS.
as far as sharing goes ive been able to set up a chain of 8 machines by sharing the network connection on one gateway machine.
i ran out of hardware but there is a limit dependent on router lag and other technical issues.
if each wireless link is good for 500 feet in the open that means 4000 feet from gateway to the remotest hop count.
that is with a 6 foot ethernet cable connecting machines and routers.
each ethernet cable can theoretically be 500 feet length so that means close to 8000 feet from gateway to the final hop
