bit of a lame thread but watched jack frost recently, a film i watched when i was young, got me thinking about horror, or what i thought were horror films i watched as a child but shouldnt have. wandered what other "inappropriate" films if any you all were allowed to see and if you think it was ok to be shown them (possible move to debates). i know i wouldnt let my child see them now, ones i can think of are

CANDY MAN
TROLL
SUPERSTITION
THE RATS
THE EXORCIST
CHILD'S PLAY
THE PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS
CHIMERA (tv series really with a film made after)
HELLRAISER
ALIEN
POLTERGEIST
NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (these affected me the worst)
GREMLINS
THE EVIL DEAD
THE BLOB
THE THING
THE STUFF
HALLOWEEN
FRIDAY 13TH
THE TOMMYKNOCKERS
PUPPET MASTER
IT
AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON
THE HOWLING
THE FLY
THE FOG
BASKET CASE
LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS
LOST BOYS
THE STEPFATHER

It depends on what age you were as a child when you viewed these films, and whether your parents deemed you 'mature' enough. Of the films you listed I had only seen one before I was 13, that being The Exorcist. Upon memory I think Predator was the first film I saw which I shouldn't have, at age 10. In terms of gore effects probably not near as graphic by todays standards, still it fed my imagination for years.

The only show that ever scared me as a kid was Salem's Lot . And it spooked me pretty good. Guess I was around 6 years old, and I wouldn't go near a window at night for a long time after watching that on the telly.

Back in the day (80's) I lived with my first wife in the North of Scotland, in a little hamlet miles from anywhere.

We had a video tape (remember them?) of "Poltergeist".

Anyway, as we watched it and just at one of those "scary bits" the bulb blew in the standing lamp we had in the living room - needless to say we had to scrape ourselves off the ceiling Embarassed
