Hello isoHunters,

Here's the short backstory:

Bought my cousin a new HD 6850 to replace his stock 3650 that came with his Aspire M5641. Threw that baby in, expecting it to work no problem. Well after the boot, there was no display. Didn't show BIOS or nothing. So we started troubleshooting:

-tried the card in a different PC, worked.
-tried a different DVI->VGA adapter, still nothing.
-reinstalled drivers, still nothing.
-removed CMOS battery and jumped the jumper, still nothing.
-took it out, put in the old 3650, the pci slot works fine.
-flashed the BIOS to the latest version, R01.C2, still didn't work.

We're running out of options here. Last resort is to get a new Mobo. But that'd be absolute last resort.

Any fresh ideas?

Get a replacement or test it in another PC to make sure

Any "beeps" during/after applying power? If so, how many?

what's the psu,the card requires at least a 500w and a quick google check says the pc only has a 300w.not sure if that would do it though the other pc may have a better psu.

God damn the internet! it's the third time I try to edit my post and I get my connection lost!.
Indeed what I wanted to say is to check if your PSU is able to supply the power to the GPU

The M5641 is based on the nForce 630i chipset.

It's probable you are facing a conflict. Might have been simpler to go for a nVidia card as well.

What was the mobo on the other machine you tested it on?

As I'm reading correctly his post he didn't test the card yet in another machine he just tested the old card again
But the old card is also ATI my mate I don't think that made the conflict

Devilz_108: did that, the card works
Fred-Bear: one beep
iamnephilim: forgot to mention, PSU was replaced with a 500W
WhiteViper:the GPU that was being replaced was a Radeon HD 3650, so incompatibility seems unlikely, possible but unlikely. Mobo from last test machines were from an acer with nvidia bridges, and a GA-990FX, amd bridges

The minimum for that card is 500W but I don't recommend running a GPU with a minimum power supply
It seems that the problem is your mobo

Just to make sure, you did plug the power in for the GPU?

yessum,

Devilz_108:
the PSU was tested with that card on another machine and worked fine.

I'm starting to wonder if this can be narrowed down to the Mobo being too shyte to run this card. The latest BIOS were written in 2009, and the card is newer than that.

Yay, or Nay?

My call would be to change your mobo....doesn't look like it can handle it.
