TAR BZ2 File?

What is a file ending in dot-tar-dot-bz2? What opens this?

Seems to be a Linux compressed file of some sort

its a linux/unix version of a zip archive, it means TapeARchive.
its doesnt deserve the suspiscion that a .zip file should have
the extension .TAR is a relic from old when unix systems used a digital tape to archive data or files.the BZ2 tells you what type of archive utility generated the file

its still a common way to distribute packages for linux
