Hi. While searching for Wii software I came across many repeated acronym codes written into filenames - things like "[PAL]" or "NTSC" or "MULTI5"

Obviously (wii) made sense to me, but otherwise I felt like a country bumpkin reading my first apartment listings: Det d/w g/d EiK NS 2BA 3BR. It likely makes sense when you know it... (chuckles) Is there a reference for the commonly used ones, pls?

Thanks!

PAL and NTSC are region codes

pal being europe and ntsc being the americas

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:PAL-NTSC-SECAM.svg

MULTI5 it means multiple languages that the game comes in.. in MULTI5 would be 5... usually English, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch etc

these being the ones you should know... the others usually are the uploaders tags

other codes

Wonderful! Thanks so much! I hadn't realized that digitized video used different region codes; I'd assumed that was a tape format thing. Thanks so much, and Happy New Year!

PAL and NTSC format media are not interchangable they have to be converted if for instance you want to play a PAL encoded video on VHS tape on an NTSC player. a digital player application is another matter, its all in a thing called a codec ...a CoderDECoder

I shall attempt a lucid answer when I find out what an "acronym" is, posh words vex me.
