as advised by members i may be experiencing certain problems with my pc due to my hard drive only having around10gb free space, it is in the red, i wandered what was using all this space and thought it would be a fairly big job to manually check everything. i wasn't sure if there was a programme to do this so just googled space analyzer. SpaceSniffer is one that comes up a few times. i checked the forum and the freeware thread but it is so big. i couldn't see any recommendations on this sort of programme so thought id throw it out. has anyone used a programme of this kind. if so which one is best. as saidSpaceSniffer looks good and the best thing is its free and standalone. as always any help is very much appreciated

Not really ever bothered with that kind of thing, although it looks ok....tazzzz is usually one of the best people to ask about software...

I usually just whip through stuff and delete what i dont need.
When i reach a certain point where that is no longer an option, and if its just extra storage i need i get one of these Laughing

Go through your pc the hard way and delete some stuff, I could nearly tell you exactly what is on mine and where. Its good practice to know these things.

You can just right click each folder and go to properties, that will show you how much you got in each folder, add those up and then you'll know where your at or where the space is being used. Also a lot of times windows backup will just keep on creating new restore points and that can take up a massive amount of space. you can go to disk clean up and delete all but the most recent restore point. I have got back 40gb the last time I let windows backup run on my system unchecked.

I have never really needed such software like trollster already said better of knowing whats on your drive and going through it manually ..
Also having so much data on your hard-drive defragging it after you delete even if your not deleting this will help..
The built tool in windows works fine for defragging but imo far faster freeware and paid for software about like Defraggler ..

whenever im cleaning out my HD every so often i use treesizefree . It scans it pretty quickly and easily lets you drill down through the different folders to see whats taking most space. Nice little GUI interface especially the results. Very handy tool especially when using on servers etc. But works perfect for personal machines too.
