is it advisable to open up my laptop? not long after buying it i noticed a rattling sound inside. yes i know i should have taken it back but i never got around to it. the sound has definitely got worse and now am sure something has broke off inside and is rattling around in the fan. it has been like this for a few months now with no problems but it does worry me slightly. should i open it up and get it out? i am aware this will probably void the warranty but as its over a year old i dont think it matters |

R, but are you computer savvy afn09... Does the rattling sound start happening when the laptops on... You could just ring up the shop you got it from & explain the problem (But don't let them con you in saying, oh we'll look at it for you & then charge you loads for looking at it)... Opening up a laptop can be a right ballache i bet. |

worried it will get worse or maybe jam the fan eventually or maybe brake into smaller bits and spread about and do some damage. not sure how robust or sensitive laptop interiors are
no not savvy RAV3R but surely it cant be that hard to to open it and take out the broken bit? no it rattles about if you shake laptop but worse when the fan is on. you can hear it pinging around sometimes
and its from fkn argos. will do LG! just wandered if it was advisable to do it or leave it |

you want to get an idea if its going to be a big issue to disassemble.
you may see that you can release the key board by pushing a couple of spring tabs, and be able to get the piece out, and see where it came from. |

sounds like the engineers didnt connect a cable properly, and it's flapping about when the fan is on. I'd defo take it back, it wont take them 2 mins to open it up and rectify the issue. It's really not advisable to have loose fittings that could damage the motherboard or other componants. Most new P.C.'s or laptops come with "the Tech Guys" support, (for windows based at least) Check the paperwork you got when u purchased it, There should be some form of customer support available. If you are still under warranty, usually the company arrange a date to collect the product, and they return it a few days later, door to door service. Hope this helps. |

Step 1:- It's your fan touching the base of the heatsink or casing probably you need to find that out by first removing the battery and disassembling upto this..
Step 2:- You wont need a connection for the power supply to eradicate the problem though all you need is a swing using your finger to find out what it's touching and
remove the fan case (link)
and bring a matchstick or cardboard bit (not a piece of paper though) and stick it in the loose end of "touchy" fan..then assemble as it's..(It's tested and worked; I did it on my sony vaio)
It's not a problem where you'd replace your fan though.
And the other option is given by sgevony.. (which is safer and um sounder if you don't have the lappy opening tools!) |

.. its the when you shake the lappy you hear something rattling, part that gets me. These things are assembled on a factory line at mach speed, so somtimes little bits get cracked or tag along from the plastic moulding process are not totally removed and they fall off inside. if it jams your fan thats a bad thing. have you found a page for the dissasembly process? make sure it is the exact make and model, dont wear a wool sweater and take the battery out. I know it might be beyond your comfort level, but choose a time when no one is going to bug you and, use a paper template to index the screws location so you dont mix em up. |
