The 20% increase in web browsing speed over SSD Just for putting your browser cache on one is enough of a reason for me. Wink

Sounds like minimal gains for an extremely high cost to me, ram may have come down in price, but its still way more expensive than SSD. So unless you get around 5x the speed of SSD this seems a waste to me.

I got 24GB for $100 gskill ripjaws 1333mhz brand new, far as the speed improvement, it's more than 10x faster. Look at the numbers off to the side second to last collum on my benchmarks. Thats the drive benchmark.

10x? im not so sure, what is your data transfer rate on the ramdisk? I cant see any specs in your screenshots as there is some big irrelevant number covering them Wink

RAMDisk bench mark

Now you got me thinking maybe my ssd drive is slower than average ssd, I dont know on that. It's a mini ssd out of a tablet I believe. Anyway I had to get a adapter to go from min pci to sata. Maybe I'm not getting the best transfer that way? All I know for sure is the bench mark shows the ramdrive to be alot faster. Now back to a comment I made about encoding, well it doesn't make as big improvement as I had hoped. Using convertx2dvd it knocked roughly 20 seconds on the conversion, with an average of 30 more fps. Ran the same file 2 times each way, best time was on ram at 5 minutes 37 seconds for a 1.3 GB file.

Well your ssd speeds are definentlly slow, as i have WD black sata drives that do better. But the numbers are higher than i would have thought on the ram disk. But convertx would never see a benefit i dont think, you would need a bottleneck on your disk speed for this to have any real benefit in my opinion. So unless convertx is doing its job in around 45-60 seconds, ramdisk is no better than sata.
