So the US is getting as bad as China and Iran for the Internet. That's bad for the free world. |

well it seems like a really good deal for both artists and MegaUpload, but the 'Colombian Drug Lord' is a bit exaggerated. sure they're making a helluva living, and the competition is tough, but at least they don't go bashing doors in with guns ablazing if they don't like their competition. that's the Drug Lord way, not theirs. Kudos to Kim Dotcom. hope he makes a steady recovery. |

The forbes article does sound a lot like a reason to go in heavy.
Already the music industry is still pissed that due to their own stupidity Apple has become the largest music distributor on the planet and had mega succeeded with his posible plan then the industry as it stands now would have been blown apart completely.
Whichever way one looks at it rights or wrongs it comes down to money.
Those that had it and are losing it and those that were obtaining it are the enemy. |

The rights and wrongs of megauload will be discussed for a long time. But what is now happening and is of more importane but being sidestepped is the legal usage and the millions of private files and personal content that has been seized without warning and without any regard of the consequence.
Thousands of smaller firms and millions of private individuals used the cyberlockers for their own content. It has been seized by a foreign authority.
Just how crass is that?
Many people who are not USA citizens have had their personal data effectively siezied and withheld. It is a massive ivasion of privacy under a context of you might have copyrighted material. WTF, are the FBI going to notifuy these people, are they going to invade your privacy to check photos letters emails writings video and other items to make sure it is yours???
What a bonanza for the media moguls. Possible access to content and great ideas that they might claim as their own as lets face it........security issues with USA firms is quite appalling. People walk into defense systems and leave smileys.
OK mega was a bad boy so arrest him but doing what they have done is simply just way out of line.
They have simply decided that the entire world is guilty and that they have the right to just seize everything.
How do you get your info back? how do you get your info back with a secure knowledge that some perv has not been studying pictures of you and yours that you might have uploaded to a cyberlocker. Yeah I know it would be daft to do that but hey.......it was supposed to be safe.
Where are the peoples rights to privacy in this momentous fiasco.
Basically the FBI has just declared war on the world. I hope that a few million legit users of the cyberlocker sue the FBI.
Innocent till proven guilty has died.
Seizure of personal data is a go.
Perusal of personal data is OK as we are checking to make sure you don't have something from someone else.
Yeah right, doing the doggy style to the music of some copyrighted song that you actually own but hey .... the song was for listening to and not for recreational acts.
I know i post some ludicrous points here but no more ludicrous than the fact that the once land of the free has decided that privacy and innocence till proven otherwise are no longer matters to be treated with respect.
The manner in which megupload has been handled has been to show the world that the free and democratic american states are in fact just as heavy handed and blind to the rights of others as the foreign lands they so liberally accuse.
And Tazzz Spain has also started a case against the FBI

y'know i have seen several links to MegaUpload state 'the link is not accessible due to copyright issues' or something on that note. so to say that MegaUpload or any of its employees/employers do not care for copyrighted material is unsubstantiated.
but there are issues where copyrighted music still gets uploaded and not taken down. from those that do not get taken down it might be because those that hold the copyright do not wish to have it taken down, whether it is because of a way to advertise their material or simply are more liberal about their file sharing.
either way if those copyright holders don't have a problem the point of seizing their accounts and files seems quite moot imo. |
