I prefer golden globe.

Still good enough to cross check your own picks with the nominations.. Very Happy

Well out of the list my verdicts are somewhat like this...

Cinematography

"War Horse (2011): Janusz Kaminski"

Editing

"The Artist (2011): Anne-Sophie Bion, Michel Hazanavicius"

Art Direction

"Hugo (2011/II): Dante Ferretti, Francesca Lo Schiavo"

Costume Design

For "The Artist"

Makeup

For "Albert Nobbs (2011)"

Adapted Screenplay

For "Moneyball"

Original Screenplay

For "Midnight In Paris"

Documentary (Haven't watched any!)

--

Music..

"The Artist (2011): Ludovic Bource "

Visual Effects

"Hugo"

Animated

"Kung Fu Panda 2"

Director

"Bérénice Bejo for The Artist (2011)"

Supporting lady

"Octavia Spencer"

Supporting dude

"Nick Nolte"

Leading lady

"Rooney Mara"

Leading dude (Can't say haven't watched "A better life")

"Gary Oldman" (so far, it's a tough pick)

Foreign Movie

"A Separation" (Undoubtedly)

Movie

"The Artist" (Undoubtedly!)

PS: Yeah " The Artist (2011) " is that good .
It might win most of the awards.
It's the movie making geniusness at its finest even without a dialogue but the score of a lifetime...
I didn't give my petty review on it but will do after a second viewing.

The Oscars seem to be quite political. I remember Judi Dench won an oscar for best supporting female role in 1998. The film was Shakespeare in love I think! The thing is that she was in the film for less than 5 minutes! Most people believe that she won it because she had deserved it a previous year but didn't get it, which is ludicrous and completely unfair on the other candidates!

Apparently, among movie stars, the BAFTA's are very prestigious, More so than an Academy Award..... That said it may just be with British actors but they do seem to hitthe nail on the head most years.

Yay!Oscar time! Laughing
I love making predictions and then discover how wrong I am. Rolling Eyes
Ok!So,let's see...

Best Motion Picture of the Year
Who's gonna win: The Artist (2011)-Thomas Langmann
It is indeed a very good movie although I have the feeling that was made for Oscars only.
Who I want to win: The Descendants (2011)-Jim Burke, Alexander Payne, Jim Taylor
I like Payne's cinematography.The end.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role
Who's gonna win: Jean Dujardin for The Artist (2011)
Who I want to win: Anyone but Brad Pitt

Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role
Who's gonna win: Meryl Streep for The Iron Lady (2011)
Who I want to win: Meryl Streep for The Iron Lady (2011) with second choice Glenn Close for Albert Nobbs (2011).They both gave a great perfomance in mediocre films.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role
Who's gonna win: Christopher Plummer for Beginners (2010). It was a boring movie but...
Who I want to win: Jonah Hill for Moneyball (2011).The only good thing in this movie was Jonah.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role
Who's gonna win: Octavia Spencer for The Help (2011)
Who I want to win: Octavia Spencer for The Help (2011).

Best Achievement in Directing
Who's gonna win: Michel Hazanavicius for The Artist (2011)
Who I want to win: Alexander Payne for The Descendants (2011).Don't let me repeat myself.Payne for the win.The end!

Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen
Who's gonna win: The Artist (2011)- Michel Hazanavicius
Who I want to win: Of course, Woody Allen for Midnight in Paris(2011)

Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published
Who's gonna win: The Descendants (2011)-Alexander Payne, Nat Faxon, Jim Rash
Who I want to win: The Descendants (2011)-Alexander Payne, Nat Faxon, Jim Rash. What?Did you expect a different answer?

Something interesting:
Best Foreign Language Film of the Year
Rundskop (2011): Michael R. Roskam(Belgium)
Hearat Shulayim (2011): Joseph Cedar( Israel )
In Darkness (2011): Agnieszka Holland(Poland)
Monsieur Lazhar (2011): Philippe Falardeau(Canada)
A Seperation (2011): Asghar Farhadi( Iran )

Of course Oscars have nothing to do with politics. Rolling Eyes

I didn't like much 'The Help'. Frankly I don't know why it's been nominated at 'Best Motion Picture of the Year' category.

Err..where is 'Drive'?I kinda miss it from the list.

Ya i guess its just seen as not being 'oscar material'. It was half expected that it wouldnt make list. Even albert brooks as best supporting actor which should have certainly been there! Personally Drive was my fav film of last year, and some of my favourite performances, in Ryan Gosling and Brooks, nevermind screenplay and sound editing.

But i have to say its the least interested ive ever been in the outcome of oscars, with whats been nominated. Not too bothered about what wins in what category. Though to be fair I have one or 2 of the nominated films yet to see, so may change my mind if get to see them before awards Wink

I have not yet watched many of these films. I did though watch The Help. I too have to wonder why it was nominated. I found it charming and fairly delightful but I did not find it a fabulous film with any stellar performances. Crying or Very sad Maybe I'm being too critical? Or maybe I just missed the whole meaning behind the film. The plight of the blacks in the time era has been done so many times that perhaps this has lost the effect? I don't know, but I'll just say that while it was a good movie, I don't think it was award worthy.

Meryl Streep will win best actress for a lame film no one will see because the movie was timed and made for her to win it, a movie about Margret Thatcher will put an insomniac to sleep in no time.

So I'm the only one who finds The Help exceptionally well done! Rolling Eyes
"The Help" is a old, grand, sophisticated cinematic experience; done artistically which is sort of a tribute to the world of drama..
No one I personally know liked it as much as I did.
I can understand that though; I thought I was missing something when I watched Tyrannosaur for the first time too and after a second viewing I realized what was it I was missing. When it comes to movies like this it's your taste all that matters; you can't force yourself to like these. Wink

Yeah; she's "overrated" imho...And a way more in Iron Lady..

lol I had to share this

I doubt Woody Allen will win any Oscar although I'd like to see him winning at least at the Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen category.

Hey,has anyone seen We need to talk about Kevin ?They say that Tilda Swinton worthed the nomination for Best actress.

I also kinda miss Kirsten Dunst from the same category and Melancholia in general but after Trier's statements in Cannes I can see why he is 'persona non grata'. Rolling Eyes

I'm in love with the movie Melancholia. It's in my "must buy blu ray" list.
I guess Kirsten Dunst's name isn't there because it was better than Oscar standards lol.

"We need to talk about Kevin" and "Perfect sense" will watch today..

I guess Drive, Win win, Warrior, Take Shelter, Martha Marcy May Marlene etc aren't there because The Artist is going to be all over the awards..like mute flies..
