I'm looking for suggestions for games for a friend. He hasn't played games for a while and bought a PS3 a few years ago. He didn't start playing it until last year. He had gotten some suggestions and bought a few games that he didn't care for. Grand Theft Auto IV, Call of Duty 4, Bionic Commando, Resident Evil 5, God of War III and Final Fantasy XIII. He tried some of them, played for about 5 - 10 minutes, decided he didn't like them - had trouble re-learning the controls and that was the end of that. I ended up with his system and bought Deus Ex: Human revolution. He liked that and that's the only game he plays. I've ended up playing most of his games. Resident Evil 5, Call of Duty 4, Bionic Commando and Final Fantasy XIII (this one gets on my nerves).
He's looking for other games and also for multi-player games so we can play against each other. Here's what happened with some of the other games - Call of Duty 4 he had trouble with aiming (I do too, but I don't give up that easily), God of War III he couldn't get the character to lift a log that was in the way to the next challenge (I couldn't figure it out either) Final Fantasy XIII - I can understand - I like Final Fantasy and I found it irritating, the others I'm not sure. Now that he's gotten use to the controls with Deus Ex: HR (and we have our own PS3 console), I think if he gives Call of Duty 4 and Resident Evil 5 another chance he might like them. I'm open to other suggestions. |

Sometimes a game can be frustrating.
But there is hope
Now people please do not screech at me about cheating. Sometimes a particular quirk from a developers can spoil a game cause they think something different.
The titles you just listed are pretty good. So google. With skyrim I had the same problem at the first door puzzel. i just could not get my head around it and was about to give up. However I was not alone as google proved.
Just type in the issue and a solution is offered. After finding what was needed for the door I could simply retrace my footsteps and see how the puzzels worked. Didn't need any more help via google once I knew the basic idea of the puzzels.
For aiming in shooters some people are nimble, my sons settings on a PS2 a few years back were so sensitive i found myself staring into the ceiling or sky 50% of the time or looking at the floor the rest of the time.
Go to the settings and reduce the sensitivity. It would drive my son nutz but I was able to shoot the dammed enemy without wanting to hurl the controller across the room.
Just two things that make a difference. Whilst some would say I cheated to use google for the skyrim door puzzel my defence is it prevented me from giving up on what became a game that i enjoyed immensely. |

I plan to get Resident Evil 6 too, do a pre-order through GameStop, and I wish they would make the new Resident Evil Revelations for PS3. It looks good but it's only made for Nintendo 3DS.
I'll look at that thread that you mentioned, but I seem to be the one buying the new games. I think he'll be more interested in used games, even if they just come out. When Deus Ex:HR came out, I bought new and he bought used.
I wouldn't say that's cheating. When I was playing Final Fantasy XIII, I was fighting this set of 2 creatures for 2 days and had to do a yahoo search to get past it. Turned out I had the solution right in front of me and was passing it. I try to have the books for the game just for a quick reference when I get stuck - really stuck. Some might say that's cheating.
I put the settings at the slowest for all the games, especially the shooter games. He's always complaining that I put it too slow, but I also reverse the x and y axis too (he likes to mess with the settings of my games when I walk away for a minute). His problems were the controller - no patience. |

I'm going to look those up for him (and me too). If I leave it up to him to check them out, playstation will have come out with 2 more console editions and he will continue to ask me about games and complain about not having any games to play. I think some I can get as trial versions from playstation network plus.
I don't know if he likes driving sims. I know I suck at them. The only one we have, Grand Theft Auto IV, I don't think he got past the first cut scene.
I was just thinking. His very favorite game is StarCraft, but he doesn't play it any more because he can't sit that long in a computer chair - back problems and it's only for computers. Anything out there simular? |
