So I'm planning on building a new computer from scratch.

Things I want:
-Uber processor (Core i7), going to go with intel.
-Hdmi output (External)
-Decent sound and graphics (not massively important)
-Plenty of RAM with room to upgrade
-Pretty big Hard Drive
-A good number of USB 2.0/3.0 ports (External)

Does anyone have any good suggestions for the motherboard I should get? I don't really know much about them and knowing me I'll buy completely the wrong one.

Cheers guys. Wink

no onboard video but that would cost more and not be as good as getting a decent gpu.about the same as mine but it's revision 3.1 rather than 3.0

IMO a good bang for your buck card would be a HD6850 they are reasonably priced and a single card will play most games at high or medium, crossfired they play anything i've tried at high or ultra but i don't game a lot.

I like this board, also has integrated video that can get you by if your video card fails. The integrated would be fine for 1080p video but not gaming. Has usb3, upto 32 gigs ram, and 3 PCIe x16 slots(running x16, x8, x4) also has raid

actually thats a micro atx, i prefer this similar full size board:

I believe the I7 includes hardware support for DRM, and this could be a bad combination with any win7 version OS, im looking through white papers at intel right now..

I think it's just sandy bridge and newer second generation core processors. That have the hardware enabled DRM.

yeah , sandybridge architecture, and second gen chip , namely I3,I5,I7
at the time it doesnt look so bad, you need a corporate software kit for remote kill, and the DRM on die is for hardware acceleration of DRM, usual excuses, it enhances streaming of HD video, its a new feature to help you.
thought it was important for JXY as the CPU is kinda the first choice to make for a new machine build

as an aside thanks to intel we can look forward to our hardware setting files with a shelflife, or a maximum views

oops..thin edge of the wedge intel gives Hware support for netflix, and warner to set a time or per view limit, and defeat recording of a stream. and software work around would require cracking the media and fixing it
