- You can use boolean operators (-, |, OR), wildcards (*, ?), and phrase search (") in your query
- For BitTorrent: Paste in a 40 characters info_hash, to search for that particular torrent and get all trackers for it

I beg pardon if this was covered in another post, but after two weeks of seeing garbage torrents posted regarding a recent movie release, I thought this might be of use. The following hints range from the common sense to teh esoteric to ...(something that would be neat to see in venues of this type. here Goes...
1. If a movie is to be formally released on a certain day, don't expect the movie to be in a torrent created days or even weeks before its release. Those that actually have such a thing at that time are way the hell up in the food chain.
2. Have a Virus protection program that is up to date and active; downloading from the wild REQUIRES such a program. If the torrent contents throw any flag, delete the data. A movie isn't worth a rootkit, is it?
3. As the fake torrents get posted, trends are easy to spot both in file size and in content. When downloading a torrent, make note of any seeder addresses that are the same across any fakes that you find; if they are present as a seeder, than anything they are a part of is suspect. File size at times can also be a dead giveaway. If a 1.27 GB torrent is fake, and other torrents the same size have the same files.....go figure.
4. This is a timesaving method for discoverinmg a lot of fakes (if applicable). Most all releases have a txt or NFO file included. If you set the priority of such a file to high, it will download in a few moments due ot its small size. Read the file...if something stinks, once more...delete it
5. A legit release will not tell you to pay for a codec or complete massive ad offers or require a proprietary viewer for the content. If the file won't open in a standard Media Player Program, ditch it.
6. Regarding Codecs: There is no way in hell that someone is legitimately going to charge money for a codec. Codecs have to do with video standards, and the widest used standard often wins. Proprietary format Codecs are as much garbage as fake torrents.
7. Despite all of this, you still may download a fake torrent. If you flag the torrent as such, others will avoid it, thus spoiling the fun of the person who uploaded it.
8. Despite the fact that this place is the Digital Wild Wild West, it would be neat to see some minarchist regulating features such as:
The ability to block out a specific file size
A means of purging obviously fake torrents (don't they clutter the landscape and cause waste of bandwidth regarding the time spent downloading them? With less fake torrents cluttering things, overall speed might actually increase.)
I have seen several specific IP addresses that are invariably always with the fake content I see... maybe things might change one of these days...
Okay, I spoke my piece; feel free to add to this or comment good or bad.

already have one.
https://isohunt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=246497
the fakes tend to be painfully obvious and there is no need to ever download one,i haven't.
filtering/blocking isn't going to happen, this site is in a lawsuit because we don't wish to filter because then you lose the good with the bad.
this is an indexing site and the fakes aren't here and that being the case we have no control over what other sites allow and can't remove things that aren't here. |

Best recommendation i can give is dont download torrents from windows, if you use pretty much any other OS you will be safe from 99.9% of the crap out there. The only time ive downloaded fake files was just pure laziness on my part. |

99% of fake files are downloaded because of -
Greed - (can't wait)
Lazy - (Can't google)
Stupid - (wont learn)
TV episodes that aired an hour before hand and ppl see the torrent, ignoring the fact its zipped for starters, dont even notice the - IMPORTANT PASSWORD .txt, dont even read the 4 comments saying its passworded and the fact every torrent indexed here has how many hours ago the torrent was created - tv ep aired an hour ago, torrent created 6 hours ago. And for what ? to watch House the great doctor who cannot even fix his own leg, or Sheldon write another linux app to scar Penny (she has nice tits mind you) or to watch a cam of some movie they would not normally watch full off popcorn munching coughing actual paying people so they can feel superior for doing so.
There is no fix for greed lazy and stupid
Appreciate the post CryHavoc but we have a sticky and you are preeching to the choir here. I fixed your rep so you can comment easier |
