It honestly depends on what it is and how many seeders there are. I've been downloading something that is 13gbs for a day at 30-50 kb's. Then on the other hand I've have many movies that have hit 1.2,1.3 up to 1.6 when downloading them. Right now i have 4 active downloads. 1st is at (400) 2nd at (300) 3rd at (200) and last at 50. I'm happy with the speed jsut wish sometime there were more seeders for those hard to find searches.

Cheers

Yes it has to do with hoe many seeds there are, but not as much as how fast those people can seed. I've downloaded torrents with under 100 maybe even under 50 seeds and maxed out my download speed and then some. IF some one is seeding a torrent from a 100 Mbps seedbox, then obviously it'll download faster than lots of people all seeding at dial-up speed or a low 47 kb/s like mine. Nonetheless I still seed and give back what I take even if it takes forever Very Happy

It seems it's the slowest on very large files (over 6 gig in size) Which is pretty bad considering I'm on Cable!

this thread is almost three years old and poll speeds are still valid
though internet speeds have increased,
i can feel the hurt when i'm visiting family and experience dial-up or satellite wifi in the boonies and such
but overall speeds have not really changed much since this thread was created

i use vuze to download my torrents purely because i transfer alot of data over to my ps3 ( it currently has a 320gb hard drive i installed ) i get connection speeds between 1-100kbps varies on what im doing really as i use my laptop which has slow processor speed. but i mean i prioritise if i want something downloading fast i switch all other devices off connected to my router and presto faster download!!

well i think your speed depends more on your connection and your port forwarding status than your client ..... but i use utorrent and get 10-120 kBps... my speed usually depends on seeders

True faster connection faster speeds but all a waist of time if you need a port open and don't ... How is peers meant to connect to your client if they cannot see it ...

i'm using vuze, formally azures, and i've got up to 750kB/s on well seeded torrents but they are generaly 10-50kB/s. i can still use my browser at the same time without losing to much speed.

Yes I have noticed the same thing. I switched from DSL to Cable a few weeks back. That has increased my dl's. But I don't think in a proportionate manner. My cable service is suppose to be providing 12 megs. Yet I have maxed out at best about 1/12 that service. Normally I get between 400 to 800 Kbps. Occasionally I will get to 1 meg or 1.2 or 1.3. Even though the top companies here swear they don't do it, and have been sued over it, I believe they throttle the bit torrent users. But like a previous poster so aptly said.....it's free so what's to complain about.

I use utorrent, and get 100-200kb/s. Occassionally this drops considerably, so I change the port Utorrent uses and port on the router and it seems to help so I guess it's my ISP causing me to change every couple of months or so. Lately It's been far slower but that's due to the downloads which I am working on at the moment which are not so popular and less seeds.
Generally, if I'm going to do some serious internet surfing, I'll stop Utorrent but if I'm watching a movie or doing something else, I'll remove all restrictions in Utorrent for uploads and downloads so Utorrent uses the whole bandwidth of my internet. During these times it's virtually impossible to browse the internet or instant messaging, but at least I can get a movie in 1 hour 30 minutes (around 700-800MB). At that rate, I can watch a movie and by the end, the next movie has completed download, so I'm watching and downloading at the same rate per second pretty much. Peer block included.
