With faster decoding on multi-core, GPU, and mobile hardware and the ability to open more formats, notably professional, HD and 10bits codecs, 2.0 is a major upgrade for VLC.
Twoflower has a new rendering pipeline for video, with higher quality subtitles, and new video filters to enhance your videos.
It supports many new devices and BluRay Discs (experimental).
Completely reworked Mac and Web interfaces and improvements in the other interfaces make VLC easier than ever to use.

Plus a whole lot more. Cool

Thanks for the link Mr Hotwire.
Loving how they've added a whole lot more to the 'Right Click' Tools for track sync are now on the right click rather than shrink window.
Seems far more responsive somehow and graphics through both my gtx260 & 8800 Ultra are soooo much sharper.
.MKV rips have so much more definition than before (have 2 identical systems to compare)
Shifting all of my systems to TwoFlower now Very Happy
Great Find & Thanks Again.

I uninstalled my old vlc first. The installer may delete the previous version, I don't know on that. But it is not an update it's a got a new engine under the hood for sure.

Laughing How do you come up with these sort of things.....

I've an older version. The skipping up parts while watching movies is a bit tricky in the traffic cones. Shift+ -> takes it 1 sec back and sometimes ctrl+-> skips a minute in some movies; so I prefer KMplayer. The sound and picture quality's undoubtedly better but when I watch on my lappy where my system volume is constant and VLC's 12.5% volume (ctrl+down's minimum volume) is considerably loud like 50% on KMP. So the volume adjustment is easier in KMP because of the range. That varies in VLC codecwise. I hope this version fixed that. End of the day I'll have to rely on the traffic cones anyways for bigger resolution movies (1080p) to avoid the unstable pixelness and the slow mo sync problems like in other players.

Cheers for the link Mr. Hotwire. Very Happy

I just got around to playing with the newer version this evening and it looks good. Although it has quite a few new tweaks to it here and there... It does not seem like they turned it into bloatware. Resources being utilized seem to be about the same as my previous version 1.1.1.
Cheers

LOL I was just sitting here messing with the filters when ya posted that. Something I just noticed, when you make changes in video filters they stay now even after reboot. I'm waiting to try that flicker filter, to see if it makes a cam more viewable. Otherwise I'm quit happy with the improvements, and cant say as I've seen any increase in ram or cpu usage either.

I downloaded a couple of days ago as my Mac threw up an alert that VLC was outdated. VLC is one of the few apps I trust and leave the automatic update search on when loading.
For the Mac the interface is greatly improved. Much of what VLC had under the hood and many people missed is now in view in the main window.
For example the ability to stream music video and to access radio sound streams are now no longer hidden in the menus.
An aspect i always liked with the VLC app is to sift thru internet radio streams and use the recording ability built in to VLC to capture the sound stream from these stations. For me this is a real plus as i listen to a lot of music not available in mainstream stores.
The real bonus though is that open source is truly coming of age and this new version of VLC looks as professional and works better (imo) than many paid for applications.
