Extreme Noob - survey hell...

Hello All,

I am brand new to this world of torrents and I think I am making amateur mistakes...

I tried to download "We Bought a Zoo" and the file name is "We Bought a Zoo 2011 TS XviD".

The read me file is as follows:
"To protect this video file from automated leeching, it requires a specific codec.

You can download the codec by visiting the link below (copy and paste to your address bar)

and then it posts some random web site.

I saw that the file had over 1700 seeders, so I assumed it was legit... But the read-me file says that I have to do a survey to get the codec. Foolishly, I really tried to do the surveys and I somehow roped myself into perpetual invites to do other surveys...

Anyway, the *.avi file downloaded and is 1.29 GB, so I was hoping there is a way around this thing... We have downloading limits with my ISP and I would really hate to have wasted so much space on a silly locked file.

When a file has 100's of seeders and no comments stay away from it until you work a few more things out, its a good indication it is a fake as the seeds are faked too to trick ppl, like you.

So as to not request the obvious, I initially performed a keyword search for "codec" and another for "survey". I didn't find the link you guys provided provided :(

In the start it´s a good idea only to DL the once that have green flags, and ALWAYS stay away if they are flaged red.

The best way i can explain it, maybe someone can assist if it´s explained totely wrong Confused

I got stung like that when i first entered this addictive world of Torrents.
Only advice i could give is wait for and read the comments first. Someone will eventually come along and post a comment regarding it's legitimacy.
Give it a while and you'll learn quickly, plus, there's always decent advice given on IH, people who try to fob you off with duff links usually dissapear quickly Wink

You'll soon get to know the trusted uploaders too, but follow the advice above, and you won't go far off track
