I really like the composition of a lot of your photos, but I'm surprised that I haven't seen you do any rectangular scenes. You have a pretty good eye for spottin'. I would love to see you do some long exposure work. |

You also have a top camera. Wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be one of the Canon 350 series or comparable camera. What are you using? Lenses? |

Hey m8 I have a Panasomic Lumix DMC - FZ18 bridge camera I dont have any lenses for it but i think u can get a couple of screw ons for macros/ tele zoom but i wont bother with lenses till (if ever!) i can afford an entry level DSLR
We checked "Which?" before we bought it, it was the "Which?" favourite bridge camera despite being a discontinued model, they didnt like the upgrade as much but theres a new lumix out now which is better but that costs more than an entry level DSLR and its only just come out!
My lumix is 8.3MP with an 18times optical zoom we picked it up second hand off amazon for £120 it was a bit tricky to get to grips with at first but ive had it about a month now i think and i think ive got the settings mostly right |

I've had the chance to use some Fz series cameras. It's a good bit of kit. May not be a full fledged DSLR but it's not a point and shoot either. It's got a lot of options to play around with.
I agree with you on waiting on the lenses till you pick up a more conventional brand of DSLR because then those lenses can be reused with any future upgrades. This becomes quite a significant factor later on.
If you want to play around with long exposures, you don't have to have a tripod, you can rest it on just about anything. Only thing to take care of is that nothing protrudes below the lens. One irritatingly painful yet surprisingly rewarding thing to try out with long exposures is to capture lightening. |

@whiteviper
Yeah the cameras good, I know a lot of people say its all about composition and the camera dont matter but since i got the lumix ive noticed a 100% increase in the quality of my shots, I can capture images that simply werent possible with my old point and shoot and as well the possibility to shoot as a raw file and develop it yourself can add greatly to the quality of the pics, Ive just started playing with the raw developing but the pictures I took at robinhood bay I developed myself and compared to the cam developed jpegs and i think on most of them i did a better job than the camera, Ive been lazy with the blackpool pics I felt the camera had done a good enough job not to warrant playing with the raw. as for the long exposure i know u can find something to rest on but it limits the potential for photo composition as you cant always get the angles and positions you want and im quite picky about my composition but id like to capture lightning, got to wait for the right weather on that one though, ihink Id need to go on a photo specific shoot and im more of a spur of the moment guy, I like to experience a place and shoot as I find the right angles onr thing i think you can lose with a camera is to spend too much time with it, you spend more time looking through a lense than really experienceing the place you are visiting so you need to strike a balance
@Nick - I looked up rectangular shots and found the golden rectangle rule, I assume this is what you were referring to but that might be out of my depth at the moment. Some guy on another forum pointed me at the rule of thirds the other day as well so i need to go on a shoot and see if i can get that right first as thirds seems easier than golden rectangle and i think ive been inadvertantly utilising it a bit already. I might try and find a freebie on line course to see what over rules are around. With the lumix i can play with F-Stop and Shutter speed as well so thats something else i need to read up on and practice
Thanks for the feedback to everyone who comments on my pics it makes me feel like theres a point in posting them as sometimes i feel a bit guilty as ive been using the art forum as my personal gallery and sometimes im not sure if i should, Id like it if more people commented. I mean this threads had over 100 views and only a few people have commented and the more feedback i get the better shots i will be able to take, im always receptive to constructive critisism and even if people just say they like the shot it makes me feel like its worth posting them and then i can know im doing something right
might be going off again on saturday so hopefully will have more pics for u next week |
