Jim Killock, executive director of the Open Rights Group, called the move
Quote:
"pointless and dangerous".
"It will fuel calls for further, wider and even more drastic calls for internet censorship of many kinds, from pornography to extremism," he said.
"Internet censorship is growing in scope and becoming easier. Yet it never has the effect desired. It simply turns criminals into heroes."

I would agree 100% with this statement.
P2P is sharing and as a result a great number of artists have in fact benefitted from the "illegal" activity as their music is shared discussed and posted. The fans of an artist have always supported will buy the product. P2P enables those unknown unsigned and often even those signed to a record deal to be discovered by people around the world that often would never hear or have access to the music.

If P2P is pushed underground and P2P sites are blocked then the costs to the industry as a whole will in fact be higher.

I find it astounding that the overall benefit of Sharing (zero cost and no profit) from peer to peer has enabled many music lovers to discover artists and their music and then to make a conscious decision as to whom they wish to support through purchase.
When the world of copyright was throwing its weight around in the days of napster and others itunes appeared and everyone from the music industry was literally blown out of the water by the simple fact that itunes sold millions of songs overnight. SOLD.....is the shout. Still they ignored the fact that people will pay if they get what they want when they want and for a price they can afford. I think that Jobs was smart enough to see a simple truth that music through P2P had such an impact upon youth and internet culture that if they knew the song and new the artist they would buy it if they liked it. Not steal it.
Again it comes down to a perverted sense of vision and greed.........
Every download is not a lost sale.... This simplistic idea that 1 million downloads is a loss of 1 million dollars is wrong.
The simple truth.....if I have a TV and I have a TV license and I record my fav songs from MTV onto my home recorder I have not broken the law but sadly 90% of what is on MTV I think is shite and therefore access the P2P sites for what I want and not what they give me.
It is not just a censorship of the nets that I fear but a return to censorship of choice......

About 60% of movies i download end up getting bought on my credit card. If i download and enjoy, i'll go to Amazon and order it.
If sites get shut down, and i don't get to see an avanced screening, i just won't buy.
Then who loses?
Ok, i'm just one person, but there's others like me......many others!

Edit: the 40% gets deleted as soon as i think it's shite, the 60% remains on an external hdd as a backup of the original

Virgin Media Starts Pirate Bay Blockade

Image

http://torrentfreak.com/virgin-media-starts-blocking-the-pirate-bay-120502/

Quote:
Earlier this week the news broke that the UK High Court ordered that several of the country’s leading ISPs must censor The Pirate Bay.

The court order covers all major UK ISPs, which means that 94% of all UK citizens will no longer be able to access the site.

That is, if they don’t find a way to circumvent the block.

While the ISPs were given a few weeks to roll out the blockade, it only took Virgin Media a few days to implement.

Virgin Media subscribers now get the following notice when they try to access The Pirate Bay.

Virgin Media has received an order from the Courts requiring us to prevent access to this site in order to help protect against copyright infringement.

I know how to use a proxy to get back on, no problems, but I can't download anything when using a proxy, doesn't work unless I gotta do something?? something I'm missing?

TOR is probably your easiest way (and it's free!) https://www.torproject.org/download/download-easy.html.en

Isohunt indexes most of the other sites, so if it's on there it should be here.

Or type what you're looking for into google followed by "torrent"

E.G. "Mission Impossible torrent" Wink

^^me agrees with dezzie with easy and free....however it isnt generally allowed for p2p, and using it for such is frowned upon so you might get some unwanted attention if you use it for torrenting...utorrent will still expose your ip address even over tor so you might still get found out...plus you are kind of exposed at the other end of the onion network if you end up with a bad exit node (read up on pro's and con's of TOR - quite interesting stuff)

If you use a vpn rather than a proxy, this will help. There are a lot to choose from, and some are better than others. A VPN will allow you access to whatever site, and your ISP (Virgin) will be none the wiser. Your true IP address will be masked too, so TPB will not be able to tell that you were there either.

http://btguard.com/ is a good one, it will let you download anonymously, as well as browse anonymously. It is fairly cheap and works great...you can customise utorrent to work through the vpn too, to give you watertight protection...follow the instructions on the website, only takes 5-10 mins to set up Wink You can buy it for as little as 1 month to see how it goes.

...your ISP will only see you connecting to the btguard servers and thats where the trail ends....the only thing they will be able to tell is that you are sending and recieving a large amount of data, rather than being able to discern it as p2p data....

http://www.easy-hide-toasted spam/ (easy hide ip) is another good way...still pretty cheap and im pretty sure its something iamnephilim uses as he is in the states (he needs to break out of the states to see isohunt) - you can put utorrent into this application too. This one comes with a three day trial, so you have nothing to lose if you dont like it....

Can you explain more about VPN, do you have yo pay for all of them? do you use one? any other recommendations?

I can see how it protects, makes me wonder as I've been doing this for so long haha always been exposed, scary, but do I need to use it? really?

You dont have to pay for them all, but the ones worth having you do Wink
I have used both of these in the past (i have done the three day trial of easy hide ip) and am currently using btguard.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_private_network - more here

you can also use a seedbox - robmead uses one, and im sure dezzie has mentioned using one before too...you have to pay for that too, but it means you dont download directly to your computer so you can actually turn it off at night Laughing

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seedbox - more here

the best way though if you are not looking to pay for a service really mate, is just search for everything here...or connect to TPB through a free proxy like hma or anonymouse etc, copy the torrent's hash and paste into the search bar up there^^^ and let the hunt to the rest Wink

What I have found is many torrents are on ISO as on other sites but many times on ISO some do not have any seeders or leechers 0/0.

So I can find the torrent I want but I dunno whether there's any point downloading from ISO as it may have 0/0, am I right in thinking this?

I suspect you are clicking on the magnet link which is the fist one, just to the right of it is the torrent link. If your having problems with magnets then probably need to update your client. When your trying to download though a proxy once you get the torrent file or magnet and your client opens , the proxy you was on is no longer a part of the process after that unless you set your client up to run though a proxy or vpn.

This vpn should let you browse the site vpnreactor the free version only lets you on at half an hour at a time then you have to wait another half an hour to go back on again LOL ..The pro version does not look to bad
https://www.vpnreactor.com/

When they first block it this link would of got you into the site
http://tpb.pirateparty.org.uk/

But as already been said isohunt should have its torrents index anyway ..
