Great necrojob PunkRockFreak09
Punk or Rap, eh? Well, they are both hard to get right. Im a fan of the Beastie Boys, who have done both succesfully in their time, although i think their style of punk/thrash was known as "new york hardcore"
Neither genre is my favourite, but will listen to both with equal enjoyment. Im glad this isnt in the debates section, as i havent really got an opinion either way! |

Well when i grew up there was no punk sound, it was more about content and attitude than sound. Now there is all these 3 chord bands singing about getting laid or something and calling it punk. Same goes with Rap, in the early days i feel it was more diverse. I guess i feel both genres are somewhat dead. But i still listen to lots of punk so thats prob were my vote went |

indeed.....the day of siouxie and the banshees the Pistols buzzcoks the ruts and girl band the slits along with a generation of others are no longer doing it.
The Ramones from USA got punk right but even they kinda ended up commercial....and the dead kennedy's did a few cool numbers.
Punk got fashionised by the media as did Rap.
Early rap was gritty and cut to the bone these days its like ham slices from the supermarkets.
Both Punk and Rap in their beginnings told it as it was without any "please excuse me" they just threw it in peoples faces for what it was....imo it was honest and without the todays superficial fashionable messages in the lyrics..
Music is allowed to vent anger and to create havoc with the system....it does not need to be dumbed down or tamed. |

Turn off the radio dude, all you are going to hear is BS "music" featuring autotune, R&B singers and embarrassingly pop hooks. Hip-Hop music still is diverse and has plenty of skilled artists but for some reason a lot of people think that commercial singles in the Top 10 are all that exists out the entire genre. As for punk it's not really my thing and I don't listen to that music much so can't really comment. |

When done right both are cool to listen too
The problem is people keep coming up with new names and genres for every new band that comes around so who knows what is actualy what anymore |

Trust me, the radio is off And your right, we are kinda opposites, i still follow what happens in punk and metal, but not rap - so i can't really comment on whats going on underground. But for punk, nothing interesting has happened in a long time. Hopefully someone will prove me wrong and post something thats innovative. |

Sorry guys. I honestly didn't see the date, I just saw the topic and added my opinion. I apologize for "necromanzing". |

no problems........
if it were a topic not worthy of a necrojob it would be locked.
The question as in the OP is still a valid one even if the quality of both Punk and Rap seems to have gone downhill over time. |
