does peerblock act as a stand alone ipfilter of does something need to be enabled in the client to get the benefit.

http blocked= blue light
http unblocked = orange light, thats how mine is working.

one more thing i was wondering about pb 1.1
is there any maintenance, a cache to clear or log file thats accumulating.
i ask because im up to one billion ip's blocked, thats alot

Thats correct phoenix hunter! Smile

However regarding your question, it's a history file that saves blocked IP's - history.db - you can change how this works in PB's settings.

I think this is the default settings, but I tend to configure most stuff some, so I'm not 100% sure.

Clicking on Allow HTTP will let you access the store fine, is that what you wanted?

That may be true for the Browser based store front, but when I try to start Steam as part of my boot process PeerBlock still blocks Valve and Limelight which seems to be a requirement for the program to start, check for updates and then reside in the task bar, which is what I want because I like to start my games from the icon pop up shell because that seems to be the only way to get my Key layout the same as the PC game. (Launch with classic controls).

Of course I can allow the IP being used at the time temporarily or permanently, however they use a frequently revolving IP address so I have to do that just about every time I reboot my PC. I have looked for how to allow a domain or name within PeerBlock but either it can't be done there or, I lack the know how.

I will take a poke around the web and see if I can find a cure, you know there is one.

This is probably located within our help section but I did find this:

Instructions

1
Launch the PeerBlock software from your computer.

2
Click "List Manager" followed by "Add."

3
Type "Steam" in the description field.

4
Click "Add URL." Enter the URL "http://list.iblocklist.com/?list=steam" (without the quotation marks).

5
Select "Allow" as the type and click "OK" to save all changes. PeerBlock will allow Steam access and you will be able to connect to Steam.

As soon as I did that, my Steam began updating so it seems to work, I will reboot in a bit and see if my Steam automatically starts on boot.

Edit: Seems to work.

Ah right, I already had steam running when I tested it. I never thought to see if it could start with peerblock enabled. In my defense it has been a while since I last used peerblock. Wink

Looks like PeerGuardian on Google code was updated last month and PeerBlock hasn't been updated since 2010. Been using PeerBlock without issues for awhile now...wondering if the new PG is better?

phoenix labs stopped work on peerguadian for pc years ago and suggested users get peerblock.there was a linux version released from sourceforge a month ago or so from what i read.

peerguadian didn't work properly with 64bit systems was the problem and peerblock does.what matters though is the lists and they are updated all the time, though nothing is 100%.

if you use utorrent you can just use fear-otaku's updater and not really need this all it does is have a larger list base which blocks things that you don't really need to be blocked like access to some government sites,etc..
