I have a couple of comments in this post.
A Shaved Wookie: "Edit: afn: They can't stop it. These sites are used for so much more that 'illegally' downloading a movie. The last time I checked the UK was a democracy which means that the people who pass these laws work for us, the tax payers. Maybe I'll stop paying my taxes and how they like that. Democracy is a lie."
I too think Democracy is an illusion, see excerpt from Plato
Plato has made interesting arguments. For instance he asks which is better—a bad democracy or a country reigned by a tyrant. He argues that it is better to be ruled by a bad tyrant, than be a bad democracy (since here all the people are now responsible for such actions, rather than one individual committing many bad deeds.)
Instead of rhetoric and persuasion, Plato says reason and wisdom should govern. As Plato puts it:
"Until philosophers rule as kings or those who are now called kings and leading men genuinely and adequately philosophise, that is, until political power and philosophy entirely coincide, while the many natures who at present pursue either one exclusively are forcibly prevented from doing so, cities will have no rest from evils,... nor, I think, will the human race." (Republic 473c-d)
According to Plato, a state made up of different kinds of souls will, overall, decline from an aristocracy (rule by the best) to a timocracy (rule by the honorable), then to an oligarchy (rule by the few), then to a democracy (rule by the people), and finally to tyranny (rule by one person, rule by a tyrant). Aristocracy is the form of government (politeia) advocated in Plato's Republic. This regime is ruled by a philosopher king, and thus is grounded on wisdom and reason.
Plato states in order the other four imperfect societies with a description of the state's structure and individual character. In timocracy the ruling class is made up primarily of those with a warrior-like character. In his description, Plato has Sparta in mind. Oligarchy is made up of a society in which wealth is the criterion of merit and the wealthy are in control. In democracy, the state bears resemblance to ancient Athens with traits such as equality of political opportunity and freedom for the individual to do as he likes. Democracy then degenerates into tyranny from the conflict of rich and poor. It is characterized by an undisciplined society existing in chaos, where the tyrant rises as popular champion leading to the formation of his private army and the growth of oppression.
And Fiach: Do you have the link of where to view what was presented by UPC to the courts and the courts summing up and reasons for their decision?
It would be interesting to see and maybe the court ruling of UPC could be of help to IH with their current court appeal. I posted excerpts from a government inquiry that may have evidence to support IH since research was undertaken for the inquiry.

The whole idea of blocking TPB is ridiculous. It brings media attention to the site, its creates a whole wealth of proxies and workarounds, and is completely 100% unenforceable. All they're going to do is end up pushing more people onto VPN's and end up with zero control over anything (and a good thing too IMO).
I sometimes wonder why they even bother. The internet is like Afghanistan... you'll never beat it. |

I would like to second this. Thank you, lis01, for bringing this under the attention of the general isohunt public. So... when can we expect a change in rulership of the forum?

Oooh ouch.... if you're not happy with the way things are run at Isohunt you are free to join another site/forum. Certainly no one is forcing you to join in here.
I was illustrating that even before today's society, politics sucked and even though people were aware of this hundreds of years before our time, not a lot has changed.
Basically, if you are not happy with Isohunt, please don't use me to highlight your dissatisfaction. I actually like this site and it's the only one I have joined and participate in. |
