Hey, there are some pretty cool free podcasts at
http://podcast.nexusradio.co.uk
or if you use itunes:
itpc://www.nexusradio.co.uk/forum/podcast/feed.xml
A variety of Electronic genres, mixed together in either short 5 track Mini Mixes, or longer continuous mixes.
No adds, no BS, just good music
Are there any good DJ's here? I'm looking for new music and I find one of the most enjoyable ways is listening to a mix, finding the track list and then I buy my favourites in WAV format (I'm an audio snob)
Anyway if you know of any good mixes on either ISO hunt or elsewhere on the web please let me know, I would love to have a listen! |

I used to mix Hard House/NRG (2000-2004) and also electro (2004-2007) back in the day....still got my decks somewhere but they are vinyl decks and i havent bought any records since 2007. I really want some cdj's but they are expensive and my mrs would go mad if i bought some at the moment (saving for our wedding)
There's a few members who used to/still do dj.... djdezzie, LSF-Seth and GraphikalDesign to name a couple... |

I'll look them up thanks.
I've gone digital - Buy WAVS and use a numark stealth, kinda budget but very usable.
My mate has Serato and a £1000 bit of hardware that is just lovely, very jealous but then he is a fantastic DJ where as I'm only "not bad" |

cant believe yous are talkin about this...i just bought some decks and a mixer of ebay! i used to mix hardhouse and trance and D&B. dont even know what happened to them, i was like 16. bought some soundlabs and a hybrid synergy mixer, pretty shit and not great condition but for 30 you cant moan, i will upgrade if i get back into it. got a hifi for a ton so full set up with a new stylus for 140!
in my opinion cd and digital mixing is cheating and should be banned lol, mixing is a skill and should stay with vinyl. nothing beats the sound or the anticipation when you lay he needle and hear that crackle!!!
gigman have you got anythin for sale? records, mixer, tunes? i was gona start a thread as i was desperate for some needles like some stants or orto conchords. |

Your better off starting back into it with basic equipment mate, its like learning to play football barefoot. As soon as you get some decent boots (technics) - your suddenly much better

Is it fook. But i agree with you that it is harder mixing with records, and its more fun. I got a pair of old gemini XL 500 mk II (look like SL1200's) although they are direct drive, the torque is pathetic and you can stop the platter with more than a slight touch. One deck spins slightly quicker than the other too, so you are constantly having to fook around with the records during the mix to keep it in lol. Used a pair of 1210's for the first time at a house party, and i was like, no way! ive got time to actually do other things instead of just mix the track ha ha Never looked back....

Ive still got everything mate, but wouldnt sell anything for nostalgia i guess, i may set everything back up when we move house again... |

Yeah you will be ok with them, just make sure you dont scrimp on the needles, you want a decent set of stantons or concordes really...both good for scratching if your into that lol

I now where you are coming from mate, i used to think the same way. Unless you are REALLY cheating by using autocue, there is still skill required. You can use a sort of autocue with normal decks too, just use the bpm counters on your mixer if it has one.
Famous DJ's cheat all the time.....take Eddie Halliwell for example. He can get a tune mixed in within 10 seconds of putting a CD into the CDJ. People would think that its skill, but he hardly even uses his headphones. You can rely on the autocue from the bpm counters....within a small tolerance of around less than about 0.7 bpm, the beat from a house/trance/hardcore track etc (4/4 beat) will mix in nicely without any noticeable flaws, which can easily be corrected on the fly if needed....especially if you are scratching over or during the mix or using FX etc.........THAT is cheating in my book, but then i cant do that myself, so it comes back to skill......skillful cheating |

It's not cheating, it's using the tools you have...
is a carpenter cheating if he uses a nail gun instead of a hammer?
No, that's just the evolution of the tools and ergo the Job.
What about someone clearing the snow off roads with a plough instead of a shovel? is that Cheating? NO
Same with mixing - I'll admit that turntables and records are in some respects more fun... i dont have to spend as much time beatmatching, but everything else I do myself
And if you are mixing dubstep, its pretty much all at 140 anyway so there is no real beatmatching.
I'd rather listen to a good clean mix and enjoy the music over listening to someone stack every single mix.
All Digital mixing really does is make the beat matching side easier, everything else you still need the skills to do.
Plus buying my tunes in WAV format means they always stay in good shape, don't warp, can redownload if hard drive crashes, don't take up any real space, can take them with me anywhere without doing my back in... think about it... DIGITAL mixing is the way forward. |

most definitely! that (and cd mixing) is a perfect example of why proper skills are lost over generations due to technology making things so simple a retard on a yts scheme could do it within a day.
