Problems downloading any files, HELP!!!

OK, starting a couple months back, i started being unable to download any files using uTorrent. So i staring reading discussions here in the forum where i read about another person describing a very similar problem..
Someone explained that he should use "Transmission" to download with (although there was no reason giving for why this was nessicary to do so).
His solution worked, so i found no reason to research the problem any further.

MY CURRENT ISSUE:
starting about two days ago, it seems that Transmission is no longer doing the job. *by that i mean that i have not been able successful download any files at all. The files never move beyond 0.0% completed.

PLEASE, SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS!!! I'm going crazy not being able to watch my favorite shows (Weeds Season 8 premiere) & all the free current releases rentals!!

I have a newborn, so my wife & i can't afford to pay for red box (which i hate anyways)..
