Winzix workarounds

Winzix is a new but fake compression format that requires u to install Spyware/Adware (do NOT install).

I came across an interesting Wiki which seems to reveal the Winzix format as nothing more than extra headers Surprised

and suggests 2 possible workarounds for using the files:

- header modification
- rename filetype and play Laughing

I remember downloading this files extension by mistake and I just changed the name to .rar and extracted it..I thought it was a wrongly made archive not winzix archive so I renamed it. but I'm sure it was zix, and yeah I think it can be possible. Maybe I had JUst a wrongly named archive that why it extracted no problem Laughing

but it definatly was zix Very Happy

I tried 2 files:

Greys.Anatomy.S03E24.HDTV.XviD-XOR.[eztv].rar
containing Greys.Anatomy.S03E24.HDTV.XviD-XOR.zix , which seems just a bunch of corrupt data. Rolling Eyes

The.Office.US.S03E23.HDTV.XviD.10Mbit.Seed.zix
which has the wiki specified headers
renamed to The.Office.US.S03E23.HDTV.XviD.10Mbit.Seed.zix.avi and playing nice Laughing

nice find...

edited to add:
you can actually use gspot to analyze the file even if the extension has been changed and its wrong it will tell you what kind of file it is... i tested this theory by changing both .exe files, .jpg, .avi, and .mpg files to different extensions and it still analyzed the file and showed it to be the correct file...

I have "Armed.Assault.Combat.Operations.DVD.MULTI4-RELOADED" and its a .rar. When you uncompress it you get a .zix

tried using HHD HEX editor is remove headers.. to start I removed both the one at the begining and at the end. Then the second time just the first one.

Neither worked!

Then I tried renaming it to a .ISO no good and leaving it alone and removing the headers this way...

Still No Good!

Someone please help!

I just recently got the following and it was in a rar. i extracted with winzar and found that the file in use is a zix (never heard of it before now) search and found that if i changed the file name..to .avi it would play as normal...did that and it didnt work...is this torrent just a fake..perhaps that why its not working??? ne insight would be great!!!

i have the file NEW DVD rip Pirates of the Caribbean 3.zix i have tried to change thename to avi but it wont play Sad

anyone know how to play it whitout have to download winzix. I´m not a fan of popups

As mentioned in sim.sebs original post do not install winzix it is full of adware and spyware.
